Suy Niệm Tin Mừng Thứ Sáu sau Chúa Nhật Thứ Nhất Mùa Vọng. (Mat 9:27-31)

Trong bài đọc một, Tiên tri Isaiah đã loan báo khi thời điểm đã đến  "người điếc sẽ nghe người mù sẽ thấy." Đó là thời gian đã đến như  trong bối cảnh mục vụ bận rộn của Chúa Giêsu khi Ngài đi qua các thị trấn và làng mạc của Do Thái, nơi có nhiều người mù và điếc được chữa lành, và sự thành quả đó là, họ đã loan truyền kỳ công của Chúa và ca ngợi và tạ ơn Thiên Chúa.  Chúng ta có thể nghĩ rằng thời gian đó bây giờ chì là trong quá khứ. Sau hết, câu chuyện của Chúa Giêsu đã được ứng nghiệm trọn lời tiên đoán trước của tiên tri của Isaiah. Và Chúa  Giêsu không còn hiện diện ở đây trên trái đất và thật sự nếu chúng ta dựa vào phép lạ thì chúng ta sẽ không được  khôn ngoan cho lắm

               Vì đó có thể là sự thật là vì không có hiện diện của Chúa Giêsu ở đây giống như sự hiện diện của Ngài và những việc Ngài đã làm hơn 2.000 năm trước đây. Trong thực tế, Chúa Giêsu luôn luôn vẫn còn hiện diện với chúng ta. Ngài hằng ở với chúng ta trong tinh thần, trong trái tim của chúng ta và trong thể chất với chúng ta qua Bí Tích Thánh Thể. Ngài đang hiện diện ở đây, đang  lắng nghe và đáp trả lại với chúng ta  những lời cầu nguyện của chúng ta. Ngài đang ở đây,  vẫn đang tích cực làm việc với chúng ta và qua chúng ta Ngài đã chữa lành bao nhiêu người bệnh tật, cho phép lạ làm người mù được thấy và kẻ điếc nghe được. Chúa Giêsu đã hiện diện với các Tông Đồ trong các nhiệm vụ đầu tiên của họ và ngày nay,Chúa Kitô cũng đang có mặt và hiện diện với chúng ta như chúng ta trong  Giáo Hội, tất cả cùng đến với nhau như một cộng đồng để công bố Lời của Ngài và làm nhiệm vụ của chúng ta như những người đã theo Ngài.

               Điều cần nhất là chúng ta phải đạt niềm tin tưởng vào Chúa và phát huy niềm tin của chúng ta và nên nhớ rằng Chúa Giêsu Kitô luôn cùng đồng hành với chúng ta trong cuộc sống mỗi ngày. Chúng ta hãy bỏ qua đi những nghi ngờ và mở rộng tâm hồn trái tim của chúng ta. Chúng ta hãy cùng hợp nhau cầu nguyện trong mỗi gia đình và với cộng đoàn giáo hội của chúng ta thường xuyên hơn mỗi ngày. "Vì ở đâu có hai ba người họp lại với nhau nhân danh Thầy, thì ta ở giữa họ." (Mt 18:20)

Trong bài Tin Mừng hôm nay, chúng ta thấy Chúa Giêsu chữa lành cho hai người mù. Trong khi chúng ta suy niệm về bài đọc này, chúng ta nhận thấy có ít nhất hai hình ảnh đến với tâm trí của chúng ta.

            Đầu tiên là hình ảnh của hai người mù đang lóng ngóng, không chắc chắn, đang tuyệt vọng, trong một chút vội vàng. lắng nghe để chạy theo cho kịp với Chúa Giêsu. Đồng thời, họ cũng cố xác định phương hướng và hy vọng rằng Chúa Giêsu sẽ dừng lại để chờ họ. Ngưng làm thế nào mà họ biết rằng Chúa Giêsu đến gần họ? Họ phải có lòng tin để cảm nhận thấy được rằng Ngài đang đi trước mặt họ và do đó họ đã cố gắng chạy theo với lòng tn của họ để bắt kịp với Chúa Giêsu và gọi kêu gào sự giúp chữa cho lành đôi mắt. Một trong những giác quan đang áp đảo những cảm gián của họ, để rồi trong những nỗi khốn khó và những bất lực của họ dã trở thành niềm hy vọng và tin tưởng vào Chúa Giêsu sẽ chữa lành họ.

            Hình ảnh thứ hai mà chúng ta được nhận nthấy là Chúa Giêsu, người đã dành thời gian để dừng lại và lắng nghe tiếng kêu xin xủa họ. Ngài biết những gì đang ở trong tâm hồn của họ và chỉ  xin nơi họ một điều là nếu họ tin rằng Chúa có thể làm những gì như họ cầu xin nơi Ngài. Chúa Giêsu đã nhìn họ với con mắt yêu thương, và Ngài đã động lòng thương xót, và Ngài đã chữa lành cho họ. Họ đã tin tưởng nơi Chúarằng, và Chúa đã làm cho họ được thầy và trở nên vện toàn.

            Nhiều lần trong cuộc sống của chúng ta, chúng ta đã thấy chính mình đã rơi vào trong những tình huống tương tự như hai người mù;  trong bóng tối tuyệt vọng và không còn sự tin tường. Nhưng, như hai người mù, chúng ta được mời gọi để có thêm niềm tin tưởng và hy vọng vào Chúa Giêsu. Để kêu van và cầu xin không ngừng vì Ngài luôn mong muốn đem chúng ta ra khỏi cái bóng tối của chúng ta, an ủi chúng ta trong những cái khó khăn và đau khổ riêng của chúng ta. Ngài nhìn chúng ta với cặp mắt đầy tình yêu và lòng trắc ẩn và muốn làm cho chúng ta được trở nên vẹn toàn trong than xác của chung ta.         

            Lạy Chúa của chúng con, xin ban cho chúng con ân sủng để tin tưởng và hy vọng vào Chúa trong bất cứ điều gì trong mọi hoàn cảnh của cuộc đời chúng con. Xin Chúa giữ chúng con gần với trái tim của Chúa và ban cho chúng on những ân sủng để chúng con biết trung thành với Chúa. Làm cho tcon được nên trọn vẹn trong Chúa và ban cho chúng con sự can đảm để công bố tình yêu cứu chữa của Ngài,

REFLECTION
Isaiah proclaims a time when "the deaf shall hear [and] the eyes of the blind shall see." That time came amid Jesus' busy ministry through the towns and villages of Israel, where many blind and deaf people were healed and, as a result, they praised God in thanksgiving.  We may think that that time is now in the past. The story of Jesus, after all, has fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah. Jesus is no longer physically present here on earth and it would be unwise to count on miracles.

            As it may be true that Jesus is not here in the same presence as He did more than 2,000 years ago, Jesus is very much still with us. He is with us spiritually in our hearts and physically with us through the Holy Eucharist. He is here listening to us and answering our prayers and he is here still actively working with us and through us to heal the sick, to enable the blind to see and the deaf to hear. He was with the Apostles during their very first missions and he is very much present as we in the Church come together as a community to proclaim His Word and do our duty as His followers.

            All it takes is for us to believe and to build our faith, and to remember that he is very much alongside us. Let us cast away the doubts and open our hearts. Let us pray together with our families and with our church community.

            "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." (Mt 18:20)

Meditation:

            Are there any blind-spots in your life that keep you from recognizing God's power and mercy? When two blind men heard that Jesus was passing their way, they followed him and begged for his mercy. The word mercy literally means "sorrowful at heart". But mercy is something more than compassion, or heartfelt sorrow at another's misfortune. Compassion empathizes with the sufferer. But mercy goes further; it removes suffering. A merciful person shares in another's misfortune and suffering as if it were their own. When two blind men approached Jesus, he questioned their earnestness. "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" Jesus put them to the test, not to rebuff them, but to strengthen their faith and trust in God's mercy. He touched their eyes, both to identify with their affliction and to awaken faith in them. Their faith grew as they responded to his word with confident hope. Jesus restored their sight – both physically and spiritually to the reality of God's kingdom. Faith opens the way for us to see the power of God’s kingdom and to experience his healing presence in our lives.

            In Jesus we see the fullness of God's mercy and the power of his kingdom – power to save from death and destruction, to forgive sins and lift the burden of guilt, and to heal infirmities and release the oppressed. Jesus never refused to bring God's mercy to those who earnestly sought it. How can we seek and obtain God's mercy? God gives mercy to the lowly in heart – to those who recognize their need for God and for his forgiveness and healing power.

God wants to change and transform our lives to set us free to live as his sons and daughters and citizens of his kingdom. Faith is key to this transformation. How can we grow in faith? Faith is a gift freely given by God to help us know God personally, to understand his truth, and to live in the power of his love. For faith to be effective it must be linked with trust and obedience – an active submission to God and a willingness to do whatever he commands. The Lord Jesus wants us to live in the confident expectation that he will fulfill his promises to us and bring us into the fullness of his kingdom – a kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17). Do you know the peace and joy of God's kingdom?

            "Lord Jesus, help me to draw near to you with faith and trust in your saving power and mercy. Free me from doubt and unbelief that I may approach you confidently and pray boldly with expectant faith. Let your kingdom come and may your will be done in me."

Reflection

In the gospel today, we find Jesus healing two blind men. When we reflect on this, there are at least two images that come to mind.  The first is the image of the two blind men. Fumbling, unsure, desperate, in a hurry to catch up with Jesus. At the same time, determined and hopeful that Jesus would stop for them. How did they know that Jesus was near? They must have felt Jesus was walking in front of them and so they desperately tried to catch up with him and called out loud for help. One senses the overwhelming feeling about them, that beneath their seemingly helpless lot was their hope and trust in Jesus to heal.

            The second image is that of our Lord taking time to stop and listen to them. He knew what was in their hearts and asked them if they believed he could do what they asked from him. Jesus looked at them with love, and moved with compassion, he healed them. They believed, and he made them whole.

            Many times in our own lives, we find ourselves in situations similar to that of the two blind men – in darkness, despair and uncertainty. But, like the two blind men, we are invited to trust and hope in Jesus. To call out to him unceasingly because he wants to take us out of our darkness, comfort us in our difficulties and pain. He looks to us with love and compassion and wants to make us whole.

            My Lord, grant me the grace to trust and hope in you whatever the circumstance of my life. Keep me close to your heart and grant me the grace to be faithful to you. Make me whole Lord and grant me the courage to proclaim your healing love.
