Suy Niệm Tin Mừng lễ kính Đức Mẹ là Mẹ Thiên Chúa 1/1 (Luke 2:16-21 )

Để tướng nhớ đến Đức Maria là để ghi nhớ đến những hồng ân và ân sủng của Thiên Chúa, người đã làm những điều tuyệt vời cho những người thấp hèn, khiêm tốn, và có tâm hồn đơn sơ. Tuy nhiên, ngày hôm nay chúng ta mừng ngày lễ mà Giáo Hội công bố Đức Maria là Mẹ Thiên Chúa. Trong khi chúng ta cần phải tự hỏi: Làm thế nào mà Đức Maria đã có được đặc ơn và một cái vinh dự như thế vậy? Theo thư của Thánh Phaolô gửi tín hữu Galata đã tiết lộ cho chúng ta được biết là, "Thiên Chúa đã sai Con mình tới, sinh làm con một người đàn bà, và sống dưới Lề Luật." (Galat 4:4) Theo nhận xét con mắt loài người chúng ta, không có gì đặc biệt về "người phụ nữ." Nhưng đó không phải là cái nhìn sâu sắc và quan trọng vào cách mà Thiên Chúa ban ân sủng của Ngài cho Đức Maria và mỗi người chúng ta. Thiên Chúa đã làm việc của Ngài qua những người bình thường đơn sơ trong thế giới con người chúng ta để biểu hiện những sự kỳ diệu của Ngài.  Qua cuộc sống đơn sơ, giản dị nhưng tràn đầy đức tin của Đức Maria, mỗi người chúng ta nên học nơi gương Đức Maria để được tham dự một phần và một niềm hy vọng trong quang vinh của Thiên Chúa.

        Mỗi khi chúng ta gặp nhau trong ngày hôm nay,  chúng ta chào nhau "Chúc mừng năm mới" ,  Giáo Hội Mẹ đòi hỏi chúng ta tôn vinh Đức Maria là Mẹ Thiên Chúa. Một trong những lý do tốt để tôn vinh Đức Maria hôm nay là cầu xin Mẹ ban cho chúng ta được hạnh  phúc bởi vì chúng ta đang bắt đầu một năm mới trong cuộc sống tương lai đang đến với chúng ta. Và chúng ta có thấy ai là người đáng được xứng đáng  gọi là Mẹ của sự sống hơn là Mẹ Thiên Chúa?  Vì Đức Maria đã cho chính Chúa Giêsu sự sống con người như Ngài đã nói: ". Phần tôi, tôi đến để cho chúng được sống và sống dồi dào." (Gioan 10:10).  Nhờ Đức Maria mà Chúa đã đến với loài người chúng ta để cho chúng ta có được một cuộc sống tốt đẹp hơn về thể chất, và  tâm linh,  để nhờ đó mà làm cho mỗi người chúng ta có được một cuộc sống hạnh phúc hơn trong năm mới này!

REFLECTION
To remember Mary is to remember the God of grace, who does great things for the lowly, the humble, and the simple-hearted. Yet today we proclaim Mary as the Mother of God. We need to ask ourselves: How did Mary get such an honor? St. Paul's letter to the Galatians provides a clue. We are told, "God sent forth his Son born of a woman, born under the law..." Nothing very special about "the woman." But isn't that the key insight into God's ways of grace with Mary and each of us? God works through the simple ordinary people of the world to manifest his wonders. Through the simple faith-filled life of Mary we have, each of us, a share in and a hope of glory.

            As we greet one another "Happy New Year!" Mother Church asks us to honor the Mother of God. One of the many good reasons for honoring Mary today is that we are happy because we are beginning a new year of life. And who deserves to be called the Mother of Life more than the Mother of God?

            She gave human life to Jesus who said: "I came that they may have life, and have it to the fullest." A better physical life, a better spiritual life - that will make everyone happy in this NEW YEAR!

Wednesday (January 1): Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God

We are often fascinated with beginnings. We celebrate different types of beginnings with solemnity and joy, congratulations and good wishes. Over the centuries and especially during the last several decades, the Church has proposed different ways of celebrating New Year’s Day.  Now we celebrate it as a feast in honour of Mary, the Mother of God.

            We have noted before in these pages that originally feast days commemorated major events in salvation history such as the annunciation to Mary, the birth of Jesus, the Resurrection. However the Church is not confined to this way of celebrating, and so other feasts have arisen as the Church creatively found ways of reminding us of important truths. The events of the Annunciation and the birth of Jesus are the first historical

stages of God’s great work of our salvation.

            Mary was most intimately involved in these events and that means that, in her humanity, she relates to God in a way that demands that we call her “Mother of God” in order to unfold something of God’s mysterious way of dealing with us from within our human history and our human nature.

            Holy Mary, Mother of God, Jesus gave you to us as Mother of the Church:Pray for us that we may in all things glorify God by being true disciples of Jesus.
