Suy Niệm Tin Mừng Thứ Bẩy tuần 22 Thường Niên 2019

Trong bài đọc thứ nhất Thánh Phaolô nhắc nhở tất cả chúng ta rằng sự cứu rỗi đã đến với chúng ta qua cuộc khổ nạn, sự chết và sự sống lại của Chúa Kitô. Những thách thức đối với chúng ta hôm nay là phải biết giữ và sống đức tin mà chúng ta đã nhận được qua phép Rửa tội.

Trong bài Tin Mừng, chúng ta thấy Chúa Giêsu đang tranh cãi với những người Pharisêu về việc tuân giữ ngày Sa-bát hay ngày Chúa Nhật: Theo người Pharisêu thì điều mà các tông đồ không được phép làm trong ngày Sa-bát là bứt những cọng lúa và ăn hạt trong lúc các ông cùng Chúa đi băng qua cánh đồng lúa. Chúa Giêsu đã dạy cho họ bài học trong cựu ước để bênh vực cho các môn đệ của Ngài. Theo như cực ước, vua David và những người tuỳ tùng của ông đã vào đền thờ và tự ăn bánh dâng trong đền thờ và bánh này chỉ có các thầy tư tế trong đó mới được ăn mà thôi. Còn những người thường không ai được phép ăn.

Trong những dịp khác, Chúa Giêsu cũng đã thường bị chỉ trích vì chữa bệnh trong ngày Sa-bát bằng. Chúa Giêsu đã giải thích cho họ biết rằng những công việc bác ái, từ thiện và những việc làm tốt điều giúp cho những người khác, đó lã những việc nhân đức cần phải làm và đó là việc quan trọng hơn rất nhiều đối với việc giữ luật cấm trong ngày Sa-bát. Chúa đã nói rằng "Con Người là Chúa và là Đấng cai trị ngày Sa-bát".

Hôm nay, chúng ta phải giữ ngày Sa-bát như thế nào, giữ luật Chúa trong Ngày Chúa nhật trong thế giới hôm nay? Luật nghĩ lề trong ngày Sa-bát được lập ra để cho nhân loại có cơ hội nghỉ ngơi, suy niệm và vui mừng trong Thiên Chúa, trong nhau và trong nhân loại. Chúng ta phải biết tham gia trong việc phụng vụ Ngày Chúa nhật chung với cộng đồng Kitô giáo. Chúng ta phải làm thế nào để có thể được nghỉ ngơi và suy ngẫm trong Ngày Chúa nhật? Chúa Giêsu đã chỉ cho chúng ta cách giữ chay trong ngày Sa-bát, và việc kiêng việc xác trong ngày Chúa Nhật hay ngày Sa-bát sẽ giúp củng cố đức tin của mọi người chúng ta và có lợi ích trong các việc tốt của chúng ta.

Cuối hết, chúng ta hãy cầu nguyện cho nhau, cho những người đã xin chúng ta cầu nguyện cho họ và nhất là cho những người đang cần những lời cầu nguyện của của chúng ta.

REFLECTION September 7, 2019 - SATURDAY, 22nd Week in Ordinary Time

In the first reading Paul reminds all that salvation has come to us through the passion, death and resurrection of Christ. The challenge for us is to keep and live the faith we have received. In the Gospel reading we see Jesus in controversy with the Pharisees on the proper observance of the Sabbath: walking through cornfields his disciples were picking and eating grain, something not allowed during the Sabbath. Jesus sort of excuses the behavior of the disciples, citing how David and his men ate bread for the priests, but not for others. There would be other occasions when Jesus was criticized for violating the Sabbath by doing cures. Jesus explained that charity and doing good to others were more important than so many Sabbath prohibitions. He declared that "the Son of Man was Lord and ruled over the Sabbath."

Today, how do we keep the Sabbath, Sunday for most of the world? The Sabbath law was instituted to give mankind an occasion for rest, reflection and rejoicing in God, in one another and in mankind. We are to participate in the Sunday liturgy with the Christian community. How else could we have rest and reflection during Sundays? Jesus showed how the Sabbath was kept and how Sabbath observance should strengthen people's faith and be helpful in their good deeds. FINALLY, we pray for one another, for those who have asked our prayers and for those who need our prayers the most.

Saturday 22nd Ordinary Time

Opening Prayer: Son of David, Son of Man, today I want to be with you; not only in this time of prayer, but in every action that I undertake. I am hungry for your word, and have faith that you will fulfill my deepest desires if I follow in your footsteps.

Encountering Christ:

1. Field of Dreams: Wouldn’t it have been amazing to be one of Jesus’ disciples during the time of his public ministry? On this occasion, they wandered across somebody’s field, picked the ripe heads off of stalks of grain, and mindlessly fed on the dust ground up between their fingers. We can imagine such a simple, carefree day in the field with Jesus, being blessed to hear his teachings about King David. But why pine for a past to which we can’t return? Jesus clearly told us that he would be with us always (Matthew 28:20). In every Catholic church, the tabernacle light is on. Jesus is truly present, inviting us to draw near. We know from Jesus’ actions in the upper room after his Resurrection that even locked doors are no barrier to him. Nothing keeps us from an intimacy that the disciples themselves could have only dreamed of on that day. May we accept the Lord’s gracious invitation and open ourselves to this intimacy.

2. Fresh Food: These hungry wanderers must have found the fresh heads of grain irresistible. Do we experience a freshness each time we come to the Lord’s table? Jesus himself is present in the Eucharist, and he is immutable—never changing. When we approach, bringing our ever-changing selves, something powerful happens. “In the Eucharist the sacrifice of Christ becomes also the sacrifice of the members of his Body. The lives of the faithful, their praise, sufferings, prayer, and work, are united with those of Christ and with his total offering, and so acquire a new value” (CCC 1368). Our Lord’s invitation to participate in this “cup of blessing” should fill us each time with wonder and awe, as we anticipate the ways he will renew and transform us so that we can bring about his Kingdom. As related in Revelation 21:5, “Behold, I make all things new.”

3. Lord of the Sabbath: In the days of those first disciples, and in each day since, fallen man has struggled to find his place in the world that God the Father created and Christ redeemed. We tend to misunderstand true freedom, and pursue actions at odds with God’s plan, due to a disordered desire for some fleeting power or pleasure. In the beginning, though, there was just love—and the pleasure our first parents derived simply from being in communion with each other and with God. When God made man, he proclaimed us to be “very good.” He had crowned his creation, and would next pronounce a day of rest for himself. Later, God clarified that humanity was invited into this day of rest: “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God” (Exodus 20:8-10). Let us recall the words of St. Gregory the Great, whom the church memorializes today, as we draw closer to the Lord’s day tomorrow: “We therefore accept spiritually, and hold spiritually, this which is written about the Sabbath. For the Sabbath means rest. But we have the true Sabbath in our redeemer himself, the Lord Jesus Christ.” May we have the grace to rest in the Lord.

Conversing with Christ: Jesus, I thank you today for always being available to me in the tabernacle and through the Eucharist. Please increase my desire for this bread of life. Thank you also for reminding me that your will is that I do my work for your glory, and that I rest in you.

Resolution: Lord, today by your grace I will make a conscious effort to make the Sabbath day special tomorrow, freeing myself and my family from activities that don’t bring us closer to you.

Con người chúng ta thường như có vẻ thù nghịch với Thiên Chúa và với nhau; thật sự con người hay xa lạ với nhau, như thư thánh gởi cho giáo đoàn Côlôxê đã mô tả. Sự thù địch và ghẻ lạnh đã tạo ra thế giới chúng ta đang sống những sự lộn xộn, tàn bạo và đáng sợ. Sự sợ hãi, bạo lực, hận thù được phát triển mạnh mẽ hơn mỗi ngày như chúng ta đã thấy qua báo chí, internet, bao nhiêu cuộc tàn sát dã man trong những tháng vừa qua. Nhưng mục đích cuộc sống của chúng ta không phải là như thế. Chúa Giêsu xuống thế để hòa giải con người tội lỗi chúng ta với Thiên Chúa và con người với nhau qua cái chết của Ngài trên thập tự giá. Việc mà chúng ta chỉ cần phải làm là mở rộng tấm lòng của chúng ta với cuộc sống mới mà Chúa Giêsu đã ban cho chúng ta. Đó là vấn đề trong xã hội ngày nay, nhiều người, ngay cả những người đạo đức là không muốn thay đổi. Chúng ta có thể hạnh phúc và bình an như chúng ta mong muốn, sự lựa chọn luôn luôn là ở nơi chúng ta vì Thiên Chúa cho chúng ta tự do, Ngài không ép buộc chúng ta.

Qua bài Tin Mừng, Chúa Giêsu đã cho chúng ta thấy rằng, luật Sabbath (kiêng việc ngày Chúa Nhật) đã được ban ra là để giúp đỡ con người, Chử không phải là được ban ra để là chướng ngại vật cản trở cuộc sống con người chúng ta. Với Thiên Chúa thì con người và niềm hạnh phúc của con người mới chính là điều ưu tiên trước hết. Đây là điều chúng ta cần phải luôn nhớ. Chúa Giêsu là Chúa của ngày Sa-bát; Chính Ngài đã trở thành quy luật của chúng ta, và Ngài đã cai trị chúng ta với tình yêu thương và lòng thương xót. Chúng ta hãy nhận và coi đó là luật và là nguyên tắc của chúng ta nữa!

Lạy Chúa, xin biến đổi lòng trí và trái tim của chúng con.

Human beings often seem so hostile to God and one another; truly estranged, as the author of Colossians describes it. This hostility and estrangement has created the messy and frightening world we live in. The fear, violence, and hatred seem to grow stronger daily. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Jesus reconciled humanity to God and one another through his death on the cross. All we have to do is open ourselves to this new life that Jesus offers us. That is the problem — many people, even religious people, simply do not want to change. We can be as happy and at peace as we want to be — the choice is always ours. God does not force us.

Some who were sticklers for the rules were angry that the disciples of Jesus had eaten some grain in the fields on the Sabbath. This was forbidden. But Jesus pointed out a time when David and his men were hungry and in great need. They entered the temple and ate the bread of the Presence, which was forbidden to all but the priests. His point was that Sabbath rules were made to help people, not set up obstacles to hinder their journey. People and their well-being count first. This is something we need to remember continually. Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath — he himself has become our rule, and his rule is love and mercy. Let that be our rule too!

Luật pháp được ban hành bởi vì chúng ta cần có kỷ luật và trật tự chung. Luật pháp cũng được ban hành để hướng dẫn cho nhân dân biết những gì nên và không nên làm. Đó là những nguyên nhân căn bản và lý do tại sao pháp luật đã được viết ra. Khi người Do Thái rời khỏi đất Ai Cập về miền đất hứa, họ đã luôn phàn nàn về cuộc sống rất khó khăn trên đường về đất Hứa, Vì họ đã sống cuộc đời nô lệ đã quen nên họ gặp những khó khăn, rồi bướng bỉnh khi được sống một cuộc sống tự do. Do đó, Thiên Chúa đã cho Môisen viết ra mười điều răn để dậy dỗ và làm cho cuộc sống của họ được trật tự hơn. Nhưng sau này các kinh sư, luật sĩ và ngưới Biệt Phái đã vẽ thêm nhiều luật lệ rừng vô lỳ khác để cai trị và bốc lột dân Do Thái trong những thời điểm này chẳng khác gì như đảng đảng Cộng Sản VN hiện tại. Cũng như CSVN, Người Biệt Phái và các kinh sư, luật sĩ thực hành nghiêm túc các luật này để thể hiện sự thống trị, hà hiếp và tạo ưu thế riêng cho họ. Nhưng hôm nay, Chúa Giêsu đã nhìn thấy tất cả những mưu đồ xấu của những người Biệt Phái. "giúp người ngày Sa-bát là bất hợp pháp là có tội?" Trong tình hình hiện nay của chúng ta, có phải chúng ta sẽ lãnh đạm với những gì đang xảy ra xung quanh chúng ta, vì pháp luật không cho phép chúng ta phải làm gì?. Đó là tự do???

Nền tảng cho tất cả mọi thứ trong cuộc sống của chúng ta phải là tình yêu của Thiên Chúa. Công lý và lòng nhân từ phải được rộng ban cho tất cả mọi người. Tất cả các luật lệ, hay pháp lệnh phải theo các điều căn bản, không nên nhỏ mọn, không được qua khắt khe, luật lệ cũng không phải là để thống trị. Các nhà lãnh đạo, bất cứ ở trong một chế độ chính trị nào, cần phải cân nhắc và phát thảo một luật pháp đựa trên căn bản bằng tình yêu Thiên Chúa. luật pháp không nên quá mang nặng tính pháp lý, nên đơn giản. Chúa Giêsu đã đưa bàn tay của Ngài để chữa trị các bệnh nhân trong ngày Sa-bát. David đã vào nhà Chúa đưa bàn tay lấy bánh ăn. Điều quan trọng là hành động của họ đã làm tốt cho người khác. Chúa Giêsu làm cho một người bệnh được chữa lành, David đã có thể dẫn binh ra chiến trận và chiến thắng. Vì thế trong tinh thần này mà chúng ta nên áp dụng cho sống cuộc sống của chúng ta. Tuân theo luật pháp vì chúng được ban ra cho chúng ta với phúc lành của Thiên Chúa. Nhưng, chúng ta cũng nên nhìn vào những cơ bản và lý do tại sao những luật này đã được ban hành.

REFLECTION

Laws are enacted because we need order. They are also enacted to spell out to the people what should and shouldn't be done. There are bases and reasons why laws are written. When the Israelites left Egypt for the Promised Land, they were always griping how life was so hard. Since they had lived a lifetime of bondage, they had difficulty adjusting to a life of freedom. Thus, Moses wrote down laws to make it easier for them. Later on it was these Mosaic Laws that governed the

Israelites to the point that their lives were constricted by them. The Pharisees and the Scribes strictly enforced these laws to show their dominance and superiority. But Jesus saw through the motives of the Pharisees. "Is it unlawful to help people on the Sabbath?" In our present situation, are we going to be indifferent to what is happening around us because the law disallows us to do something?

The basis for everything in our life should be God's love. Justice and mercy are ex tended to everyone. All laws and ordinances follow these bases, not pettiness, not superiority, nor dominance. Rulers, whatever their political systems are, should craft laws with God's love wrapped in it. They should not be too legalistic; they should be simple. Jesus lifts his hand to cure the sick on the Sabbath. David picks up grains across a field of wheat. What matters is that their action has done good for others. Jesus makes a sick man well, David is able to lead his men to victory against a despotic ruler.

It is in this spirit that we should live our lives. Follow the laws for they were given to us with God's blessings. But, look to the bases and reasons why they were enacted.
