Suy Niệm Tin Mừng Chúa Nhật Thứ 20th Thường Niên Nam C

Những người theo luật của Chúa thường không có được một cuộc sống dễ dàng. Tiên tri Giêremia chắc chắn đã không muốn nói dối với các nhà lãnh đạo Israel về những sự thật mà họ không muốn nghe. Các nhà lãnh đạo do thái thích nghe các tiên tri giả những người thích trấn an họ bằng những lời giả dối. Cuối cùng họ đã ném ông Giêrêmia xuống một cái giếng nước sâu để giết ông ta, nhưng Chúa đã can thiệp, và giải thoát ông.

Chúng ta nên nhớ rằng khi chúng ta đang làm việc cho Chúa, chúng ta không làm việc đó đơn độc một mình. Mà có Chúa và sức mạnh của Ngài đang ở sát chúng ta và làm việc với chúng ta. Người Do Thái khẳng khái rằng chúng ta đang bị bao quanh bởi đám mây nhân chứng; những người đã đi trước chúng ta, các thiên thần và những người có cùng ý hướng với chúng ta. Chúa Giêsu là người đầu tiên; người tiên phong và chúng ta đi với Ngài trên cùng một con đường. Nếu Chúa Giêsu phấn tranh và kiên trì, chúng ta cũng vậy. Chúa Giêsu đã gây sốc cho những người theo Ngài khi Ngài nói với họ rằng Ngài đã đến để mang lại sự chia rẽ; theo một nghĩa nào đó, để khiến mọi người chống lại nhau. Ngài đến mang lửa để đốt cháy trái đất để tẩy rửa;và để biến nó thành một thế giới trong hình ảnh của Thiên Chúa. Ngài và những người theo Ngài sẽ phải trải qua nhiều sự chống đối và bị bắt bớ, đôi khi cũng bị gia đình, bạn bè và đồng nghiệp từ bỏ và chống đối ra mặt. Nếu chúng ta theo Chúa, con đường của chúng ta đi cũng như Chúa Giêsu đã i qua, sẽ dẫn đưa chúng ta ến với sự va chạm kình địch với thế giới, nhưng đó chỉ là cách sống của thế gian

Lạy Chúa, xin ban cho con có lòng can đảm và sự kiên trì ể theo Chúa suốt cuộc đời của chúng con

Those who follow the law of God usually don’t have an easy time. Jeremiah certainly didn’t he tried to tell Israel’s leaders the truth that they did not want to hear. The leaders preferred false prophets — those who would sooth and reassure them, telling them that all was well. They finally tried to murder Jeremiah by throwing him into a cistern, but God intervened, and he was set free.

We should remember that when we are doing God’s work, we are not alone. There is a power greater than us working on our behalf.

Hebrews insists that we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses — those who have gone before us, the angels, and people who share our commitment. Jesus was first — the pioneer — and we walk the same path. If Jesus struggled and persevered, so will we. Jesus shocked his followers by telling them that he had come to bring division — in a sense, to turn people against each other. He came to bring fire on the earth — a cleansing — and to transform it into a world in God’s image.

He and those who follow him will experience much resistance and persecution, sometimes even from family, friends, and colleagues. Walking in the path of Jesus will put us on a collision course with the world, but that is the way of life. Lord, grant me courage and perseverance.

20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Opening Prayer: Lord Jesus, grant that I may know to love you more and follow you faithfully.

Encountering Christ:

1. “I Come to Bring Fire”: With what passion and tone Jesus spoke his desire! In this brief expression, he revealed his clarity about the mission and his interior impulse to fulfill that desire. We can sense the love he has for the Father’s will. He knew what he had come to do, and the only tension that existed was in not having fulfilled it completely. We feel spiritual tension also at times. Is ours a tension born from our desire to fulfill the purpose for which we are created? Is it a tension that fights our ego and resists the lure of the material world? We can ask the Lord to allow the Father’s will to burn in our hearts.

2. “Do Not Suppose I Am Here to Bring Peace on Earth”: This is a confusing statement by Our Lord! He is the Prince of Peace, after all. There is no contradiction in Jesus. He is not only the Prince of Peace but also the Way, Truth, and Life. By his very presence, he calls us to choose who we will follow. Our internal compass can be pointing straight to him while all around us, we continue to battle distractions that pull us in a different direction. Jesus knows what is at stake—eternal life. He asks us to be clear about who we will follow, no matter what the cost.

3. True Peace—Authenticity: Let us ask the Holy Spirit for light to see if the interior orientation of our hearts and the basis of our intentions, decisions, and actions are in accord with what is burning in Jesus’ heart—the fulfillment of the Father’s will for his glorification. Let us seek clarity to discern interior conflicts that may reveal resistance towards the love that our heart is made for. Let us ask for fortitude, aware that the only tension worth suffering is the one fought to be in union with the Lord.

Conversing with Christ: Lord Jesus, set my heart ablaze like your own, with love for the Father’s will that is willing to lay down my life out of love.

Resolution: Lord, today, I will be attentive to any interior tensions I experience and ask for light to see if it is a tension worth living. I will resolve to resist and deject the enemy’s attempt to turn me to egocentric tendencies.

Chúa Giêsu nói rằng con lạc đà bước qua cái lỗ của cây kim còn dễ hơn là một người giàu có có thể bước vào được Nước Trời, Chúa Giêsu có lẽ muốn cảnh báo chúng ta về sự nguy hiểm của sự giàu có. Chúa Giêsu mô tả những cái nguy hiểm của sự giàu có. Khi lòng trí con người chúng ta đã bị sự giàu có vật chất thâm nhập vào rồi, con người chúng ta cũng giống như hạt giống đã rơi vào giữa những bụi gai, khi những thứ vật chất, ham muốn thu hút con người nên họ tự chà đạp lấy lương tâm của họ bởi những sự quan tâm làm giàu của họ với niềm vui trong cuộc sống, và vì đó tâm linh của họ không được phát triển và trưởng thành. Họ rất nhỏ nhoi trong mắt Thiên Chúa. Ham muốn của họ và tình yêu thương của họ không thể mở rộng. Họ đã làm nô lệ cho cả nghìn thứ nhu cầu, như những áo quần, máy móc thời trang mới nhất, hay một ngôi nhà đẹp lộng lẫy, phaôi có những chiếc xe ô tô thứ xịn, cộng với những bữa tiệc xa hoa mỗi tuần.

Những người như vậy đang dần dần bóp nghẹn tâm linh và tinh thần của họ như những bụi gái đang lấn ép nhưng hạt giống rơi trong bụi gai. Nếu con người chúng ta đã lăn vào trong cuộc sống dư thừa của cải vật chất, có lẽ chúng ta nghĩ rằng chúng ta có thể làm được tất cả những thứ trên đời này mà chẳng cần đến Thiên Chúa! hoặc Thiên Chúa không còn tồn tại trong lòng chúng ta nữa.

Mặc dù Chúa Giêsu thường nói đến sự nguy hiểm của sự giàu có, nhưng Ngài không nói rằng những người giàu không thể vào Nước Thiên Chúa. Không phải những người giàu nào cũng không có vào được nước Thiên Đàng. Bởi vì không phải chính sự giàu có điều là những điều xấu xa cả, nhưng sự giàu có chính là mối nguy hiểm cho sự cứu rỗi đời đời của chúng ta. Sự giàu có là một phúc lành hỗn hợp hay là người nghèo có thể là một phúc lành tuyệt vời. Tất cả phụ thuộc vào thái độ của chúng ta đối với sự giàu có và những cách mà chúng ta biết dùng của cái của chúng ta một cách thích hợp.

REFLECTION

In saying that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God, Jesus is simply warning us of the danger of riches. Jesus' description of the danger of affluence was penetrating. Like seed among thorns, materialists are stifled by the cares, riches and pleasures of life, and they do not mature. They remain ridiculously small in the eyes of God. Their desires and their love cannot expand. They are enslaved by a thousand needs, for the latest fashions, for a beautiful house with two or more cars, for a television and computer set on every floor, another new freezer, costly cocktails and lavish parties. Such people are progressively choked spiritually and mentally.

If people are rolling in wealth for quite some time, they come to think that they can well do without God. Although Jesus often spoke of the dangers of wealth, he did not say that it was impossible for the rich to enter the kingdom of God. It is not that those who have riches are shut out from the kingdom of God. It is not that riches are evil in themselves but they are a danger to our eternal salvation. Being rich is a mixed blessing. Being poor can be a great blessing. It all depends on our attitude towards wealth and its place and its proper use in God's Kingdom here on earth.

REFLECTION 2019

Peter's question in the Gospel reading today is a question asked by every believer and follower of Christ, whether in religious life or in the ordained ministry of the Church or as a simple lay person: "What do we get in return for following Christ? What will be our lot for giving up things for his sake?" The simple answer for all, "We hope to save our soul and have eternal life with God.."

In the Gospel reading Jesus warns his disciples about wealth and riches: they can be real deterrents to entering the kingdom of heaven, "It will be hard for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Yes, believe me, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven." It is so easy for one to make wealth and riches, one's god replacing the true God.

Jesus also promises his disciples and those who follow him the reward of eternal life. True, the disciples left their families and their livelihood to follow Christ in his public ministry. In fact, Jesus promises them a hundredfold even in this life. "Truly, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters, or father or mother, or children, or lands for my sake and for the Gospel, who will not receive his reward, I say to you: in the midst of persecution he will receive a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and lands in the present time and in the world to come eternal life." (Mk 10: 29 - 30) Indeed, God cannot be outdone in generosity.
