Suy Niệm Tin Mừng thứ Hai Tuần 19 Thường Niên

Trong bài thứ nhất, chúng ta thấy ông Môi-sen kêu gọi tất cả dân Israel thề hứa với Thiên Chúa. Lời kêu gọi chính của ông Môisen đặt trọng tâm cho câu trả lời của dân Israel cho Thiên Chúa, tình yêu Thiên Chúa dành cho dân của Ngài. Thiên Chúa này, Đấng tạo dựng vũ trụ, đã chọn dân Israel là người được chọn đặc biệt của Ngài trong số tất cả các dân tộc, quốc gia. Dân Israel đã được Thiên Chúa dành riêng cho sự yêu thương đặc biệt của Thiên Chúa. Đáp lại với tìng yêu Thiên Chúa, dân Israel hứa tuân theo những nghi thức, bao gồm cả cắt bì, là để tôn vinh sự lựa chọn thiêng liêng này.

Ông Môisen cũng chỉ ra rằng những Luật riêng này phải tôn trọng trên cả các nghi thức chính thức. Vỉ việc cắt bì này phải giúp biến đổi tinh thần của mọi người, nghĩa là, đó là một cách tiếp cận mới trong mối quan hệ của họ với Thiên Chúa. Lạy Chúa, xin giúp con biết yêu như Chúa đã yêu thương chúng con.

Monday 19th Week in Ordinary Time

The scripture passage in the first reading describes how Moses calls the people of Israel to a total commitment to God. The key message in Moses’ speech is that at the center of Israel’s response to God, is God’s love for His people. This God, the Creator of the universe, selected Israel to be His specially chosen people from among all the nations. Israel had been set apart for God’s special love. Israel’s response in the form of ritualistic observances, including that of circumcision, is to be celebrate this divine choice.

Moses also points out that these observances have to go beyond mere formal rituals. They must help transform the spirit of the people, that is, to a new approach in their relationship with God. One of the ways they can show how seriously they take their election as the People of God is to become responsible for those in their community who are economically and socially dependent on others for their survival. These include the poor, the sick, the widows and orphans, the elderly and others. God chose a weak and powerless people to be the object of His unique love. As a response, Israel must love the same kind of people God loves.

The message of Moses is an important reminder for us as Christians. That is, God revealed His unique love to us through His Son, Jesus. It means that we too must go beyond our ritualistic observances and respond to God’s love by loving others, most especially the weak, poor and powerless.

Lord, help me to love as You do

Monday 19th Week in Ordinary Time

Opening Prayer: Lord Jesus, grant me a true spirit of reverence that orders my relationship with you and with the things of this world.

Encountering Christ:

1. Vision of Faith: In today’s first reading, Ezekiel revealed a vision of God’s glory: fire, wheels, wings, and light. It is a Messianic vision: “High above on the throne was a figure like that of a man. I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up, he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down, he looked like fire, and brilliant light surrounded him. Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking” (Ezekiel 1:26-28). While most of us are not privileged to experience such visions, we can ask for faith to sense God’s glorious presence alive in and through all of creation. Like Ezekiel, we “fall facedown” in humble reverence before the majesty of God.

2. Jesus’ Assumption and Condescension: Jesus alluded once again to the forthcoming paschal mystery he was to endure. Even before his suffering at the hands of man, despite his glory and status, Jesus did not shun the circumstances of man-made rituals and practices. He didn’t shun earthly things unless they led towards a path of destruction. Instead, he puts things in their place and teaches us to do the same. Assuming human nature, he was a citizen of this world, like us. He helped Peter to provide the temple tax that was requested. And yet, he knew his rightful place as well. He didn’t lose his identity in the process. Jesus condescends from his glorious throne, but in humility and freedom, he puts all things in their rightful place, not creating scandal or offense where it is not compromising his own identity.

3. A New Vision: We are a creation of God, privileged to be sons in the Son. We place ourselves before the majestic presence of God in a spirit of humble reverence and ask to see this world through his heart. We ask to see our place in the world as citizens of this world while called to be citizens of God’s Kingdom. We strive to maintain a spirit of reverence as we abase ourselves, taking up the crosses we are given for God’s greater glory.

Conversing with Christ: Lord Jesus, grant me a reverent heart towards all things good, noble, and true, and a courageous heart to shun that which does not affirm my identity as a child of God. I am called to build your Kingdom here on earth through the right use of the goods at my disposal.

Resolution: Lord, today, by your grace, I will recognize any tendencies that pull me away from glorifying you and make an act of humble reverence.

REFLECTION 2019

In the first reading we see God's love for those who obey him and his punishment for those who disobey his commands. He has loved and fulfilled his promises to his chosen people, Israel, beginning with Abraham and Isaac. Led by Moses, God freed Israel from slavery in Egypt and brought them to their promised land.

In the Gospel reading Jesus predicts his passion, death and resurrection. He also shows his respect for civil authorities by paying tax for himself and Peter, "The sons, then, are tax-free. But so as not to offend these people.. . take the coin [in the fish you catch] and let it pay for you and for me." Christians have to be law-abiding citizens of their countries: they are citizens of this world and of God's kingdom.

Trong bài Tin Mừng hôm nay, Chúa Giêsu cho chúng ta biết rằng đối với Chúa là Thiên Chúa thì việc đóng thuế đền thờ không cần thiết, nhưng không phải vì thế mà Ngài sẽ làm gương xấu cho người khác, nên Chúa đã bảo Phêrô đóng thuế đàng hoàng hoàng (bằng đồng tiền lấy được từ trong miệng một con cá mới được câu lên.)

Trong thực tế, chúng ta cần phải thưc hành những nhiệm vụ của chúng ta một cách chu đáo, để chúng ta có thể làm gương cho những người khác bắt chước những gì mà họ nên phải làm, Có bao giờ chúng ta đã cảm thấy khó chịu khi trốn tránh trách nhiệm hoặc nghĩa vụ của chúng ta? Trong tin Mừng hôm nay, Các môn đệ cũng đã được Chúa Giêsu cho biết rằng, "Con Người" sẽ bị phản bội, bị chối bỏ và bị Xét xử v phải chết mọt cách đau đớn và nhục nhã trên Thập Giá. Tuy nhiên, Chúa Giêsu đã sẵn sàng chấp nhận cái chết với sự phản bội của các môn đệ, cũng như, chấp nhận những vấn nạn to lớn mà họ có thể phải nhận được trong một số phận tương tự trong cuộc sống trần thế khổ đau của chúng ta, chúng ta phải luôn tìm kiếm và Xin Chúa giúp chúng ta có thêm can đảm và sức mạnh để chịu đựng những thử thách trong đời này.

Giá cứu chuộc của Chúa Giêsu đã phải trả như là của lễ chuộc tội cho tất cả những tội lỗi chúng ta và để giải thoát chúng ta, Qua cái chết và sự phục sinh của Người, Chúa Giêsu đã cho chúng ta sự tự do vô biên, để chúng ta được sống như con cái của Thiên Chúa. Để giúp chúng ta luôn luôn có thể được sống trong tự do và được hướng dẫn bằng gương sáng của tình yêu và chân lý.

REFLECTION

Throughout the Old Testament we see God's love for those who obey him and his punishment for those who disobey his commands. He has loved and fulfilled his promises to his chosen people, Israel, beginning with Abraham and Isaac. Led by Moses, God freed Israel from slavery in Egypt and brought them to their promised land.
