Suy Niệm Tin Mừng Thứ Tư Tuần thứ Nhất Mùa Vọng- lễ Thánh Phanxicô Xaviê,

Bài đọc thứ nhất hôm nay đã cho chúng ta những tràn đầy hy vọng. Như tiên tri Isaiah đã tiên báo cho dân Isreal đang bi lưu đày ở Babylon là trong thời gian khi họ sẽ trở về với mảnh đất của cha ông họ sau cuộc lưu đày. Đó  là thời gian vui mừng vì Thiên Chúa sẽ khôi phục lại các tài sản của dân Israel.  Kitô hữu chúng ta cũng trải qua những khoảnh khắc tương tự như thế, khi chúng ta ở khúc quanh cuộc đời với những đau khổ, thất vọng và không có niềm hy vọng được cứu rỗi, Nhưng Thiên Chúa đã đến và nâng chúng ta lên từ chốn vực sâu thảm sầu, hay nói khác hơn là từ cõi chết.  lẽ tất nhiên, chúng ta phải rất biết ơn Thiên Chúa cho những khoảnh khắc đó. Chúng ta cũng rất muốn rất nhiều là luôn được sống trên mảnh đất quê hương của chúng ta,  đây có thể có nghĩa là sống trong niềm ân sủng của Thiên Chúa. Đối với điều này, chúng ta luôn luôn phải nhận thức được người cứu tinh và nhà lãnh đạo của chúng ta là Chúa Giêsu, Con Thiên Chúa, là đấng cứu tinh của thế giới.

      Hôm nay, chúng ta cũng  mừng lễ Thánh Phanxicô Xaviê, Dòng Tên người đã có công truyền giáo ở Ấn Độ và Nhật Bản trong thế kỷ thứ 16. Thay vì ở lại để sống sung sướng nay trên  quê hương, xứ sở của mình là Tây Ban Nha, Thánh Phanxicô Xaviê đã đi đến những vùng đất lạ, xa côi  để mang lại tình yêu của Thiên Chúa cho tất cả các quốc gia. Ông nghe và làm theo lệnh của Chúa Giêsu là đem Tin Mừng của Chúa đến mọi ngưởi, và rửa tội cho họ nhân danh Chúa Ba Ngôi. Tại sao ông ta đã làm điều này trong khi ông là một nhà quý tộc giàu có. đã có tất cả những tiện nghi của cuộc sống? Bởi vì ông tin rằng Chúa Giêsu luôn hiện diện nơi ông ta,  trong nỗ lực truyền giáo của mình với trái tim đầy hăng say, thánh thiện để đem những ngưởi dân ngoại được vào đàn chiên của Thiên Chúa.

            Thánh Phanxicô Xaviê là con người của đức tin và tính yêu thương, vì điều này mà Giáo Hội đã tôn vinh ông ngày hôm nay. Thiên Chúa khuyến khích và kêu gọi chúng ta nhất là các bạn trẻ biết hiến thân để trở thành những nhà truyền giáo như thánh Phanxicô Xaviê,  những người sẽ rao giảng về Chúa Giêsu ở các nước châu Á, đặc biệt là những nơi mà rất nhiều người vẫn chưa biết Chúa thật.

            Lạy Chúa, Xin Chúa  ban cho chúng con sự can đảm như Thánh Phanxicô Xaviê để vượt qua những khó khăn trong  ngày của chúng con và ban cho chúng con có  những niềm vui của Tin Mừng hôm nay, và xin Chúa thúc đẩy và giúp chúng con biết vui vẻ và hăng say  loan báo Tin mừng và tình yêu của Chúa đến cho mọi người.

Meditation: "This is the LORD; we have waited for him"

What can satisfy the deepest hunger and longing of the human heart? Isaiah prophesied that God would provide a heavenly banquet for all peoples and would destroy death once and for all (Isaiah 25:6-8). Jesus came to fulfill that promise. Jesus' miracles are both a sign of God’s kingdom and a demonstration of God's power. They also show the magnitude of God’s mercy.

When the disciples were confronted by Jesus with the task of feeding four thousand people many miles away from any source of food, they exclaimed: Where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them? The Israelites were confronted with the same dilemma when they fled Egypt and found themselves in a barren wilderness. Like the miraculous provision of manna in the wilderness, Jesus, himself provides bread in abundance for the hungry crowd who came out into the desert to seek him. The gospel records that all were satisfied and they took up what was leftover.

In the multiplication of the loaves and fishes we see a sign and a symbol of what God always does. God knows our needs and he cares. When God gives, he gives in abundance. The gospel account records that the leftovers from the miraculous meal was more than seven times the amount they began with. Seven is a symbol of completion and wholeness. When God gives, he gives until we are satisfied. When God works for his people he gives abundantly - more than we could deserve and more than we need. He nourishes us with his life-giving word and with the bread of heaven. In the kingdom of heaven God will feast us at his banquet table. Are you satisfied with God's provision for you? And do you long with expectant hope for the coming of his kingdom in all its fulness?

Lord Jesus, you alone can satisfy the longing and hunger in our hearts. May I thirst for your kingdom and find joy in your presence. Give me the true bread of heaven and nourish me with your life-giving word."

Reflection Wednesday 1^st Advent /Dec 3r - Feast of St Francis Xavier

A charge to go and preach to all nations was given by Christ to His Apostles. This commission has been faithfully carried out down to this present time; and in every age God raises men and women who are filled with His Holy Spirit to carry out the important function of bringing the people of the nations to the fold of Christ. This conversion of nations according to the divine commission is the prerogative of the Catholic Church. Among those who in the sixteenth century laboured most successfully was St. Francis Xavier, whose feast we celebrate today.

            As the early Christians were filled with joy, unflagging courage and zeal in proclaiming the Gospel so are we challenged to do the same. Some people nowadays console themselves by saying that things are not as easy as they used to be. History tells us that the early Christians did not have it easy during the time of the Roman Empire. The situation then was not conducive to the Gospel message! Thus, the early Christians had to struggle for justice and the defense of human dignity.

            And in every period of history, we find the presence of human weakness, self-absorption, complacency and selfishness, to say nothing of the concupiscence which preys upon us all. Therefore, let us not say, that things are harder today; they are simply different, (cf. JG No. 263).

            Lord give us the courage to overcome the difficulties of our day with the joy of the Gospel and to proclaim Your message of Love.
