Suy Niệm Tin Mừng thứ Sáu tuần17th Thường Niên - St Martha, Mary and Lazarus

Thiên Chúa truyền cho tiên tri Giê-rê-mia loan báo các lời tiên tri của chúa cho các thành phố của Giu-đa. Đây không phải là một thông điệp dễ dàng để tiên tri Jeremiah loan truyền. Trừ khi tất cả dân chúng nghe theo lời của tiên tri và từ bỏ con đường tội lỗi và xấu xa của họ, Chúa sẽ hủy diệt thành phố của họ và tất cả mọi người trong thành nếu họ không biết hoán cải ăn năn.

Khi tiên tri Giê-rê-mia loan truyền lời tiên tri của Chúa trong các đèn thờ, dân chúng đã vây quanh ông và đe dọa ông sẽ giết ông chết. Thật là không dễ dàng chút nào khi phải nói lên những lời chân thật và chuyển đạt lời Chúa.

Bà Martha luôn bận rộn ân cần chăm sóc nhu cầu của khách quý trong nhà, còn bà Mary thì ở phòng khác tận hưởng sự đồng hành của họ. Martha cảm thấy gánh nặng của tất cả công việc vì Maria không phụ giúp việc nhà cũng không bận tâm giúp chị trong việc chuẩn bị để tiếp đãi khách. Đó là điều dễ hiểu, vì chúng ta thường ở trong tình huống đó. Nhưng Chúa Giêsu lại trach bà Mảtha và khen bà Maria đã khôn ngoan, biết dành thời gian để ngồi bên Chúa và ở lại gần Chúa, không muốn rời xa Chúa vae luôn muốn lắng nghe lời Chúa.

Qua đoạn Tin Mừng trên, chúng ta nhận xét thế nào? Ai là người đã làm điều đúng bà Maria hay bà hay Martha? Trong cuộc sống của chúng ta, đó là một vấn đề của sự cân bằng. Điều quan trọng là sự quan tâm đến nhu cầu thể chất của người khác và nên biết dành thời gian để có mặt với họ. Chúa Giêsu có quyền được Thiên Chúa ban cho chúng ta. Lạy Chúa, xin giúp con biết dành thời gian để ở lại trước sự hiện diện của Ngài.

St Martha, Mary and Lazarus - Friday 17th Week in Ordinary Time: 29th July 2022- Lk. 10:38-42

The Lord commanded Jeremiah to speak to the cities of Judah. It was not an easy message for Jeremiah to deliver. Unless all the people listened to the prophets and turned from their evil ways, the Lord would destroy them and their city. When Jeremiah delivered this message in the house of the Lord, the people gathered around him and threatened him with death. It is never easy to deliver such a message from God. Martha was looking after the needs of their guests, and Mary was in the other room enjoying their company. Martha felt the burden of all the work as Mary was not helping with the kitchen chores. That was understandable, for we often are in that situation. But Jesus commended Mary for taking the time to be present with Him.

 Who was doing the right thing Mary or Martha? In our lives, it is a matter of balance. It is important to look after the physical needs of others and to make time to be present with them. It is our God-given right to be instructed by Jesus. Lord, help me take the time to be in Your presence.

Hôm nay chúng ta mừng kính Thánh Martha, là chị của Maria và Lazarus ở Bethania. Trong thời gian Chúa Giêsu rao giảng tin Mừng, Ngài đã thường hay thăm viếng gia đình Thánh Martha và theo thời gian bà Martha và các em bà đã được coi như là bạn thân của Chúa Giêsu. Vì vậy, khi Lazarus ốm nặng, Chúa Giêsu đã được thông báo về điều đó, nhưng để tỏ lộ vinh danh của Chúa, Ngài khônhg đđến với Lazarus ngay, Ngài đã đợi thêm hai ngày nữa trước khi lên đường đến Bethany. Vào thời điểm đó, Lazarus đã chết và đã được chôn cất ( vì đường thới gian nơi Chúa Giêsu ở đến nơi Lazaro mất hết 4 ngày đi đường).

Tin Mừng hôm nay cho chúng ta thấy lại rằng Chúa Giêsus đến Bethany, Lazarô đã chết, bà Martha ra gặp Chúa ở ngoài thành, bà khóc lóc. Có lẽ bà đã hối hận và luyến tiếc vì Chúa Jêsus đã không đến sớm hơn để chữa lành em của bà là Lazarô. Nhưng Chúa Giêsus đã nói thẳng thừng với bà ấy là bà cần phải có đức tin vì Ngài chính là "sự sống lại và sự sống." Và sau khi nghe Chúa đến, thì em gái bà là bà Maria cũng chạy ra gặp Chúa và khóc lóc. Điều này đã làm cho Chúa Giêsu phải cảm động và rơi nước mắt. Vì tình thương yêu người bạn của mình và cũng để tỏ vinh quang của Thiên Chúa cho mọi người, Chúa Giêsus đã làm cho Lazarô được sống lại từ cõi chết.

Chúa Giêsus biết rằng mọi người đang nhìn Ngài và đang quan sát những gì Ngài sẽ làm. Vì vậy, khi Chúa đã làm cho Lazarus được sống lại, một số người Do Thái có mạt đã tin vào Chúa nhiều hơn. Nhưng những người Do Thái ghen ghét Chúa Giêsus vì lòng nhân từ và quan điểm triệt để về tôn giáo đã bắt đầu mưu tính việc giết Chúa Giêsu.

Khi Thiên Chúa giúp đỡ và ban cho chúng ta những ơn làm hồn xác một cách lớn lao, đức tin của chúng ta nơi Ngài sẽ phát triển mạnh hay là chúng ta coi thường Ngàivà nghĩ rràng những gí Ngài đã ban cho chúng ta đó có thể là chuyện tình cờ hat đó chỉ là sự may mắn? Có phải chúng ta biết ơn Thiên Chúa cho những phép lạ mà Ngài đã thực hiện trong cuộc sống của chúng ta hay đã làm cho chúng ta, và rồi chúng ta cũg sẽ từ từ quên đi Đấng đã cứu giúp chúng ta?

REFLECTION July 29- St. Matha

St. Martha, whose memorial we celebrate today, was the sister of Mary and Lazarus who lived in Bethany. Jesus visited them from time to time and therefore were considered his close friends. So when Lazarus became seriously ill, Jesus was informed about it, but he did not make any plans to go and visit Lazarus right away. In fact, he waited two more days before setting out for Bethany. By that time, Lazarus had passed away and was buried.

The Gospel narrates that Jesus arrives in Bethany and Martha comes out to meet him crying and weeping. For sure she must have regret ted the fact that Jesus did not come sooner to heal her brother. But Jesus tells her point-blank to have faith because he is `the resurrection and the life.' And then her sister Mary also comes out weeping and this moves Jesus to tears himself. Out of love for his friends and to reveal the glory of God, Jesus decides to raise Lazarus from the dead.

Jesus knows that everyone is looking at him and observing what he will do next. So when he raises Lazarus, some of the Jews believe in him even more than before. But the Jews who hated Jesus because of his goodness and radical views on religion started instead to plot on how to kill him.How about you? When God helps you in a big way, does your faith in Him increase or do you take Him for granted and attribute the event to good luck? Are we grateful to God for the miracles He performs in our lives or do we, after some time has passed, forget Him who has beengracious to us?

July 29- St. Matha

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to prioritize quiet time with you. Settle my mind and free me from the distractions of life long enough for me to sit at your feet, seek your wisdom, and offer you the worries and cares that are on my mind.

Encountering Christ:

1. Burdened and Busy: Poor Martha! Jesus, her dear friend, had become increasingly popular. We can only imagine that many people accompanied him as he entered the village. As she welcomed him and his followers into her home, she began worrying about practical matters. What food was available to prepare? Where were the serving dishes? Martha was anxious to be a good hostess for her beloved friend and his guests. Her desire to serve was beautiful and to be praised. However, Our Lord did not want her to be anxious. Nor does he want us to live out our days in a state of anxiety and stress.

2. Anxious and Worried: “Mary has chosen the better part.” Jesus did not mean to humiliate Martha with his words or make her feel shame. He looked with love at this beautiful woman, so harried, anxious, and stressed, and just wanted her to have peace. The word “peace” is mentioned in the Bible 329 times. “Come to me,” he implores us, “ you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Even our secular society has come to realize the great need for personal peace and suggest all kinds of remedies for anxiety. But Our Lord invites us first to lay the big and small worries, concerns, and to-do lists at his feet. “Who except God can give you peace? Has the world ever been able to satisfy the heart?” (St. Gerard Majella).

3. Nerve-Wracking: Why was Martha so nervous that evening? Was it her perfectionism? Was she overwhelmed and wanted control of the situation? Did she want to make a good impression on the guests? She would have had an easier time discerning what to do next had she kept calm and received the peace of Christ, who was in her presence. Amid our busy days, we can forget, like Martha, that Christ is present to us. He is always loving us, ready to listen, and wants to shower us with peace. A nightly examen can help us to identify what triggers anxiety in us and train us to turn to God with our problems.

Conversing with Christ: Jesus, help me to learn to turn to you with every concern I have. You are the source of all peace. You can quiet my mind and help me discern the best ways to solve any problem I bring to you. Jesus, I trust in you.

Resolution: Lord, today, by your grace, I will plan to offer a simple gesture of hospitality, either to my family or by bringing a meal or treat to someone who is lonely.
