Suy Niệm Tin Mừng Lễ Đức Mẹ Hồn Xác Lên Trời (8/15)

"Linh hồn tôi ngợi khen Đức Chúa, và thần trí tôi hớn hở trong Thiên Chúa Đấng cứu độ tôi! "

Hôm nay, chúng ta mừng lễ kính Đức Mẹ hồn xác Lên Trời . “Hôm nay -Thánh Bernard nói: Đức Trinh Nữ, đầy vinh quang và ân phúc của Chúa, được đưa lên trời, tưới tất cả các vị thần trên Trời với niềm vui “. Và ông còn nói thêm những lời quý giá: “Thật là một sự quý báu mà trái đất hôm nay được đưa lên thiên đàng! Với cử chỉ tình bằng hữu tuyệt vời này giống như một sự biếu gắm và thu nhận ; giữa con người và Thiên Chúa, trần gian với thiên đàng, khiêm tốn và cao cả, được sáp nhập thành một. Đó thật là hoa quả quý báu nhất của trần gian, nơi mà những món quà tốt nhất và những món quà có giá trị nhất được bất nguồn. Đức Trinh Nữ Maria được đưa lên trời sẽ món quà xa hoa hào phóng  của mẹ tặng đến cho tất cả mọi người ”.

            Món quà đầu tiên Mẹ Maria âu yếm, bao bọc cho chúng ta đó là Lời Chúa, Lời mà Mẹ Maria đã biết để giữ, để trung thành trong tâm hồn của mình như thế nào,. bằng cách mẹ đã làm cho nó sinh hoa kết quả từ sự im lặng thật là sâu sắc và ấm áp. Với Lời Chúa ấy ở trong không gian nội thất của mình, trong khi làm phát sinh trong cung lòng Mẹ sự sống cho tất cả nhân loại, con người, “bà Maria lên đường vội vã, đến miền núi, vào một thành thuộc chi tộc Giuđa. ⁽⁴⁰⁾ Bà vào nhà ông Dacaria và chào hỏi bà Êlisabét”. Lc 1, 39-40). Sự hiện diện của Mẹ Maria làm bà hân hoan trong niềm vui, vì thế bà Elizabeth  đã nói: “Vì này đây, tai tôi vừa nghe tiếng em chào, thì đứa con trong bụng đã nhảy lên vui sướng.” (Lc 1:44).

       Chủ yếu của mẹ là chưng bày cho chúng ta món quà của sự khen ngợi của mình, cùng với niềm vui mẹ đã đâng lên lời ca chúc tụng Thiên Chúa trong bài Ca Ngợi Khen của mình: “"Linh hồn tôi ngợi khen Ðức Chúa, thần trí tôi hớn hở vui mừng vì Thiên Chúa, Ðấng cứu độ tôi .. . và cho con cháu đến muôn đời.”  (Lc 1: 46-55). Thật là một món quà tuyệt đẹp thiên đàng chuyển lại cho chúng ta với bài ca ngợi khen của Mẹ Maria, được bằng Lời của Thiên Chúa. Trong bài ca ngợi khen này, chúng ta tìm thấy những dấu hiệu để học và hiểu cách con người và thần linh, sự pha trộn trần thế và thiên đường với nhau, trong khi chúng ta có thể phản ứng như mẹ Maria, Để món quà của Thiên Chúa được thể hiện cho chúng ta, trong con người của Con Ngài, qua Đức Maria mẹ của Ngài để trở thành một món quà từ Thiên Chúa cho thế giới, và ngày mai, một món quà từ con người dâng lên Thiên Chúa, theo gương của Mẹ Maria, người đã đi trước chúng ta trong vinh quang này mà chúng ta cần bắt chước và noi theo.

               Lại Chúa, xin ban cho chúng con được tràn đầy ơn Chúa Thánh Thần trên chúng con và cho chúng con những niềm vui, hân hoan trong việc tìm kiếm Chúa một cách thiết tha hơn. Xin Chúa thêm sức mạnh cho lòng Tin của chúng con để chúng biết đặt hết niềm tin tưởng của chúng con vào những lời hứa của Chúa ban. Xin Chúa tăng thêm niềm hy vọng của chúng con trong niềm vui và hạnh phúc trên Trời, và cũng xin Chúa cho con tăng thêm lòng yêu kính Chúa và chỉ có Chúa mà thôi.

Mary Is a Pattern of the Church

The foundations of Christ's Kingdom are laid, but he hasn't yet finished building it up. He is still extending its borders and gathering more and more people into it. This is the work of the Church militant, the Church on earth: to build up Christ's Kingdom,  to bring more and more people into his friendship,  so that they follow him and find the meaning their lives are meant to have. But what will happen at the end of history? 

            What will the Church become when the years of building reach their completion? One of the important lessons of today's Solemnity is precisely the answer to that question. Christians have always seen the Blessed Virgin Mary as an image of the whole Church. Mary brought the baby Jesus into the world on the first Christmas, took care of him as he grew to manhood, and accompanied him as he fulfilled his mission. The Church as a whole has a similar relationship with the mystical body of Christ - with every Christian, the members of that body. The Church continually brings Christ into the world through her many works of charity and apostolate, and especially through bringing more Christians into the world in baptism. And with her teaching and sacraments, the Church cares for and accompanies her members as they grow to maturity and carry out their missions. And so, just as God assumed Mary into heaven, body and soul, at the end of her earthly mission, so God will lift the whole Church into perfect communion with himself in heaven at the end of history. Mary's Assumption, then, is God's promise to us.  Every Christian who follows Mary's path of humility and fidelity to God's will can look forward to following her into the glories and joys of heaven.

            Why Jesus Gave Us His Mother This is one of the reasons that God decided to share his mother with us. Many non-Catholic Christians really don't pay much attention at all to the Blessed Virgin Mary. We Catholics, on the other hand, recognize her as the Queen of Heaven and Earth. We know that Jesus took her up to heaven, body and soul, as soon as her earthly mission was over.  This is the dogma of the Assumption, defined by the Church with an infallible papal definition. It makes sense that the woman who bore God in her womb should be borne by God into heaven, and not left in a grave to turn back into dust.

In fact, in the Old Testament, the Queen of the Kingdom of Israel was always the Queen Mother. One of King Solomon's first acts when his father David gave him the throne was to raise his mother Bathsheba to his side, to be the royal Queen - a mini-Assumption.  There was a practical reason for this tradition: Old Testament Kings used to marry more than one wife, but he had only one Mother, so she became Queen. But there was also a deeper, prophetic meaning at work.  God was already planning to send the Messiah through a Virgin, to involve a Mother intimately in the redemption, just as a mother (Eve) had been involved intimately in the Fall (original sin). God did it that way on purpose. Jesus gives his Mother a special place in the ongoing history of salvation, because he wants to tell us something about his love for us. It is faithful, strong and indestructible, because he is our Father.  But it is also gentle, patient, and ever-present, always watching over us - like a Mother.  Mary, our heavenly Queen and spiritual Mother, reminds us of this.   

            We need to emblazon this truth of our faith on the very core of our hearts. If we don't, we become easy prey for one of the Devil's favorite tricks: discouragement. He loves to get us to give in to discouragement, because discouragement paralyzes our spiritual lives. He loves to turn our attention to things that make us feel sorry for ourselves. He loves to whisper in our ears that most seductive of lies: "God doesn't really care about you - he gave up on you a long time ago."

Yet, that can never be true. Whenever we hear those kinds of thoughts rattling around our heads, we can be 100% certain that they don't come from Christ.  Christ never gives up on us. Christ is always watching over us with a gaze of overflowing love and pure, sincere interest. As Mary said to Elizabeth: "He has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness,"

or, as another translation puts it, "he has looked with favor on his lowly servant." He is always looking with favor upon us. That's just the kind of God he is! He knows our failings and our sins, our "lowliness" as Mary puts it, and he is eager to help us overcome them. He already sees in us the finished product! Today, when he comes to us again in Holy Communion, to renew his commitment to us, let's thank him for his dependability, for his loving care.
