Ngày 25 tháng 3 - Lễ Đức Mẹ Truyền Tin

            Năm nay chúng ta cử hành lễ Đức Mẹ Truyên truyền trong mùa Chay. Trong ngày mừng kính lễ này nhìn lại những sự kiện trước khi sự ra đời của Chúa Giêsus Kitô ngay cả khi chúng ta suy gẫm về sự khổ nạn của Đấng Cứu Thế. Trong các bài đọc hôm nay đều mang lại cho chúng ta chiều sâu về sự mầu nhiệm (huyền kí) xung quanh sự nhập thể, sự khổ nạn, cái chết và sự phục sinh của Chúa Giêsu Kitô.

            Chúa Giêsus là người mà dân tộc Do thái hằng trông đợi, Ngài là Đấng Emmanuel mà Thiên Chúa đã chọn để ở giữa chúng ta. Đồng thời, Mùa Chay cũng nhắc nhở chúng ta rằng chính Chúa Giêsu cũng là người bị dân tộc mà Thiên Chúa đã chọn làm dân riêng khinh chê, chối bỏ.

            Trong Thư gửi tín hữu Do Thái, chúng ta thấy tất cả những lễ vật hy sinh khác để dâng lên làm của lễ hiến tế Thiên Chúa đã bị đánh bại bởi sự hy sinh của Chúa Jêsus như thế nào;  một sự hợp thông của linh mục chủ tế, lễ vật hy sinh và bàn thờ. Đây là một dịp tốt để chúng ta suy ngẫm về cuộc sống của chúng ta ... để tìm hiểu những chiều kích hoạt động khác nhau trong cuộc sống của chúng ta là gì: thánh hiến thiêng liêng và thế tục, tâm linh và trần tục, những thành công và thất bại của chúng ta. Đây là khoảnh khắc để chúng ta nhìn vào cuộc sống của chúng ta về mặt triết lý ... Những khoảnh khắc giống nhau mà chúng ta truy niệm có thể bị gieo rắc những nỗi buồn; Những sự cố có vẻ là buồn sầu, nhưng thực sự là mang lại niềm vui.

            Lạy Chúa, Xin Chúa hãy ban cho chúng con sự kiên nhẫn để hiểu được tầm quan trọng của mỗi sự việc trong cuộc sống và giúp chúng con biết phân biệt hành động của Chúa trong từng khoảnh khắc của cuộc đời chúng con.

 

Reflection Annunciation of the Lord 3/15/

It is appropriate that we celebrate the feast of the Annunciation of the Lord within the season of Lent. This feast looks back at the events that preceded the birth of Jesus Christ, even as we meditate on the passion of Christ. Today’s readings together bring to us the depth of mystery surrounding the incarnation, death and resurrection of the Lord.
            Jesus was the much awaited one, Emmanuel, God who chose to dwell among us. At the same time, Lent reminds us that this same Jesus was the one despised by the chosen race, the priestly nation. In the Letter to the Hebrews we read how all other sacrifices were superceded by this one sacrifice of Jesus — a confluence of the priest, the sacrifice and the altar.
            That being so, it is a good occasion for us also to reflect on our lives... to find out what are the different dimensions operating in our life — the sacred and secular, the spiritual and the mundane, our successes and failures. This is the moment for us to look at our lives poetically... philosophically... The very same moments we celebrate might be sprinkled with sadness; incidents which appear sorrowful might indeed bring joy.

Lord, give me the patience to comprehend the significance of each event and to discern your action in every moment of my life.

 

The Feast of the Annunciation

Opening Prayer: Lord, on this day of your Incarnation, I place myself humbly before the greatest mystery of our faith. I am too small and simple to even think of being able to grasp how wonderful a thing it is that you, God, lowered yourself to become one of us. I am too small to even fathom what is in your heart, what a great love you have for each of us to do something like this. Help me to contemplate this scene with as much wonder as I can muster. 

Encountering Christ:

1.      Do Not Be Afraid: Mary was a young, pure, innocent girl and the visit from Gabriel frightened her! Yet, once Gabriel spoke with God’s power and authority, she may have found some peace. After all, she knew the voice of God and recognized Gabriel as his angelic representative who was, therefore, very trustworthy. Because Mary is our mother, she is more than willing to help us through our own worries and fears. When we lean on her shoulder, she will inspire us to turn to her Son and leave our fears with him at the foot of his cross. “In trial or difficulty, I have recourse to Mother Mary, whose glance alone is enough to dissipate every fear” (St. Therese of Lisieux).

2.      Of His Kingdom There Will Be No End: Mary was the first to grapple with the mystery of the Incarnation. With her background in the Old Testament and her pure faith, she was able to wonder with sincere reverence about how the lines of Scripture she had read and reflected on were about to come to fruition in her own life. Gabriel told Mary that Jesus’ name would be great, that he would be Son of the Most High, that his throne would rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his Kingdom there would be no end. With the awe and absolute trust of Mary, let us enter into her experience and praise God for choosing such a strong, courageous, and holy woman as our Mother.

3.       Behold I Am the Handmaid of the Lord: As loving children of Mother Mary, we wonder whether or not there was a moment of deliberation before her acquiescence. Were these words of hers spontaneous, or was she accustomed to considering herself the humble servant of God? Perhaps this was a prayer she repeated often, and now she needed only to reaffirm it in this new situation. Mary is the perfect example of a holy willingness to take risks. She had no idea what Gabriel’s invitation would imply, but was willing to let God lead her one step at a time. She was able to give up control and let him be in charge. May we imitate this holy disposition. 

Conversing with Christ: Jesus, in this moment you became man. At this moment Mary conceived you in her womb. God rewarded her openness and her humility with the greatest gift for all humanity. I, too, am rewarded by her fiat. Thank you, Lord, for our Blessed Mother.

Resolution: Lord, today by your grace I will say yes to some request that is made of me in a small imitation of my Blessed Mother.

 

Suy Niệm Tin Mừng Thứ Sáu Tuần thứ Ba Mùa Chay (Mk: 12-28-34)

Nhiều người trong chúng ta đang rơi vào trong cùng một cái bẫy của ma quỷ trong xã hội này. Nhiều khi chúng ta đã đồng ý về những khái niệm chính của Kitô giáo nhưng chúng ta lại đưa ra một cái nhìn khác về Giáo Hội hay chống đối lại những tín lý của Giáo hội để chúng ta có thể tự do thoả mãn những ước muốn, những tham vọng cá nhân riêng của chính mình, hay chúng ta chỉ muốn sống xu thời với cái xã hội thực tại ngày hôm nay, tự do ly dị, rồi kết hôn với người khác, kết hôn với người đồng tính,  tự do ngừa thai và phá thai để khỏi phải bận lòng…  còn một số khác trong chúng ta không đến nỗi tệ lắm, nhưng cũng có lúc chúng ta tự quay mình theo chiều gió mỗi khi chúng ta phải đương đầu với các vấn nạn thực tại của thế giới. Ví dụ phổ biến nhất là hành vi của chúng ta trong Thánh Lễ Chúa Nhật. Chúng ta có thể tìm thấy chính mình gật đầu đồng ý với các bài đọc và các bài ​​giảng trong Thánh Lễ Chúa Nhật nhưng chúng ta lại có những hành động ngược lại những điếu ấy trong phần còn lại của mỗi tuần.

            Những điều răn mà Chúa Giêsu dạy cho chúng ta trong Tin Mừng hôm nay thực sự có cơ sở căn bản cho đức tin của chúng ta. Yêu mến Thiên Chúa với tất cả tấm lòng và tâm hồn của chúng ta bằng cách lắng nghe Thiên Chúa bằng tất cả tấm lòng, trái tim và linh hồn của chúng ta. Yêu thương những người chung quanh ta là bắt đầu việc tạo dựng cá tính người Kitô hữu của chính mình để chúng ta có thể trở thành người tốt hơn, để chúng ta có thể giúp đỡ cho những người khác nhiều hơn và có hiệu quả hơn.

 

REFLECTION
Many of us fall into that same trap. We would agree on the major concept of Christianity but we would show a different side of ourselves when real world issues confront us. Perhaps the most common example is our behavior during Sunday Mass and the rest of the week. We may find ourselves nodding in agreement to the readings and the Sunday homily but find ourselves acting the opposite during the rest of the week.

            The commandments we read today are indeed the bases of our faith. But our Christian character is not complete just because we have the commandments as our foundation. The commandments can only have meaning when we motivate ourselves to learn and practice the ways and teachings of Jesus. Loving God with all our heart and soul starts with listening to God with all our heart and soul, loving our neighbor starts with building our Christian character to be better people so that we can do more for others.
