 Suy Niệm Tin Mừng thứ Ba Tuần thứ 2 Thường Niên

Cả hai bài đọc hôm nay, nói về cái nhìn theo quan điểm của Thiên Chúa. Quan điểm của chúng ta thường chỉ nhìn theo lối thiển cận và thường bị ô nhiễm bởi các thứ tội lỗi. Kết quả là, chúng ta không nhìn thấy được những gì ngoài tầm nhìn của chúng ta. Vì vậy, chúng ta đã bỏ lỡ cơ hội để thấy được cái cảnh mà Thiên Chúa đã tạo dựng và ban sự sống cho con người. Hầu hết chúng ta không chịu để ý, không nhìn vào trái tim của những người khác, chúng ta đánh giá họ qua vẻ bề ngoài của họ, mà quên đi là những vẻ bề ngoài này có thể là những thớ giả tạo và lừa dối.

Sau khi sáng tạo vũ trụ, thế giới trong sáu ngày, Thiên Chúa nghỉ ngơi vào ngày thứ bảy và thánh hiến đó là ngày Sa-bát. Ý Nghĩa thực sự đằng sau ngày Sa-bát là tiếp tục làm những điều tốt đệp mà Thiên Chúa đã làm cho người khác.

Qua bài Tin Mừng, Chúa Giêsu mời gọi chúng ta trở về với tinh thần và tất cả ý nghĩa thực sự của ngày Sa-bát đó là thực hành nhũng điều Chúa dạy chứ không phải là bận rộn hay mắc kẹt với những việc làm cá nhân hay vật chất bên ngoài. Điều răn lớn nhất mà Chúa Giêsu đã ban cho chúng ta là thương yêu nhau. Thầy ban cho cạc con một điều răn mới là các con hãy yêu thương nhau. Như Thầy đã yêu thương các con như thế nào, các con cũng nên yêu thương nhau như vậy. (Gioan 13:34). Chúa dạy chúng ta một điều răn mới rất là đơn giản, cụ thể là luật của tình yêu thương. Chúng ta nên nhớ là luôn luôn tuân theo húa dáy trong tâm hồn hơn là luật pháp của con người thế gian.

Lạy Chúa Giêsu, xin giúp chúng con biết được rằng cuộc sống của chúng con có thể luôn được chi phối bởi tình yêu thương thật sự.

2nd Week in Ordinary Time: Tuesday 21st January 2020; Mk. 2:23-28

“For the Lord does not see as mortals see.”

Today’s readings both speak of looking at each other from the Lord’s perspective. Our perspective is minimal and often tainted by all kinds of sin. As a consequence, we do not see beyond what we see. Therefore we miss the life-giving and life-creating perspective of God. Most of the time, without looking into the hearts of the others, we judge them by their outward appearances, forgetting that these outward appearances can be deceptive.

After having created the world in six days, the Lord rested on the seventh day and consecrated it as the Sabbath. The true spirit behind the Sabbath was to continue doing that which is good for others. In the Gospel, Jesus invites us to return to the true inner spirit behind all of our spiritual practices and not get stuck with outward practices.

The greatest of commandments that Jesus has given us is of love. “I give you a new commandment that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” (John 13:34). He teaches us a very simple law, namely “the law of love.” We should always follow the spirit rather than the letter of the law.

Lord Jesus, we pray that our lives may be governed by love always.

2nd Week in Ordinary Time: Tuesday

Opening Prayer: Lord, every day I come to you and every day you have something new to show me. I know that I need your word today so I can be strengthened for the mission you have for me. Help me be penetrated and transformed by your word.

Encountering Christ:

David Ate the Bread of the Offering: As often happens in the Gospels, Jesus was challenged because he didn't observe the Sabbath as strictly as the Pharisees thought he ought to. In this case, his response had a special twist to it. Instead of encouraging the Pharisees to be more humble or have more faith, Jesus compared himself to David, who made an exception to the law for himself and his companions by virtue of his kingship. We can imagine that this comparison was shocking to the Pharisees. But Jesus didn’t say this by accident. He wanted to reveal to them, his disciples, and to me that he is greater than David. He is the fulfillment that David was only meant to point to as a prophet. David was a preparation for the true King who would surpass him infinitely in power and authority.

The Sabbath Was Made for Man: Jesus was teaching us about the meaning of the Sabbath. If we were made for the Sabbath, we are meant to serve it, respect it, and honor it. But Jesus tells us that the Sabbath was made for us. Our Sunday observances–Mass attendance, time with family, rest, and refreshment–are supposed to help us grow in holiness, in our relationship with God. How well do we observe the Sabbath?

The Son of Man Is Lord of the Sabbath: Jesus was using this occasion to reveal his Kingship, to reveal his authority, and to reveal himself also as Lord of the Sabbath. He clearly and unequivocally wants to be the King of our lives. When is Our Lord not our King?—when we harbor false idols. The Pharisees had made idols of their religious practices, requiring the people to follow hundreds of dos and don'ts. The letter of the law was more important to them than the spirit of the law. We can make idols of almost anything, including our own religious practices. Perhaps Jesus is asking us here to purify our intentions with every action we take and every word we speak. May our hearts always be oriented toward him!

Conversing with Christ: Lord Jesus, thank you for giving me your friendship! Thank you for teaching me not to get lost in the many little practices that make up my devotion to you, so much so that I could lose sight of you and your friendship. Help me to observe Sundays in a way that glorifies you and truly refreshes me.

Resolution: Lord, today by your grace I will make a conscientious effort to focus my eyes on you as my King and my friend, and not have an attitude of accomplishing my prayer for the sake of fulfilling a commitment.

"Vì Chúa không thấy những gì mà như là con đã người nhìn thấy."

Cả hai bài đọc hôm nay nói cho chúng ta biết về những khía cạnh khác nhau về góc độ nhìn của Chúa. Quan điểm của chúng ta là rất hạn chế và thường bị ô nhiễm độc bởi tất cả các loại tội lỗi. Kết quả là chúng ta không thể nhìn thấy xa hơn những gì mà chúng ta có thể thấy.

Do đó chúng ta đã bỏ lỡ cuộc sống hy sinh và khía cạnh cuộc sống sáng tạo của Thiên Chúa. Nhiều lúc chúng ta không nhìn kỹ những gì trong tâm hồn hay thấy rõ lòng tốt của người khác mà đáng giá hay kết tội họ theo cái dáng bên ngoài mà quên đi rằng những cái vỏ đẹp ở bên ngoài có thể dễ đánh lừa chúng ta.

Trong bài Tin Mừng, Chúa Giêsu thực sự muốn mời gọi chúng ta nên trở về với nội tâm thực tại thiêng liêng đang ẩn núp phía sau tất cả những việc làm tâm linh của chúng ta mà không bị những phiề toái thực tiễn bên ngoài. Điều răn lớn nhất mà Chúa Giêsu đã ban cho chúng ta là yêu thương. "Ta ban cho các ngươi một điều răn mới: là hãy yêu mến nhau. Như Ta đã yêu mến các ngươi, các ngươi cũng hãy yêu mến nhau. "(Ga-13: 34). Chúng ta nên luôn luôn làm theo tinh thần thương yêu chứ không phải chỉ biết chữ yêu thương mà thôi..

Lạy Chúa Giêsu, xin ban cho chúng con được trở nên giống như Chúa, và cuộc sống của chúng con chỉ có thể bị chi phối bởi tình yêu mà thôi..
