 Suy Niệm Tin Mừng Thứ Hai Tuần thứ Nhất Thường Niên (Mark 1:14-20 ) 

Tin Mừng của Chúa Kitô được bắt đầu bằng sứ vụ rao giảng của thánh Gioan Tẩy Giả “dọn đường cho Chúa." Và ngay sau khi Chúa Giê-su chịu phép Rửa và bốn mươi ngày ăn chay cầu nguyện trong sa mạc và bị cám dỗ, Chúa Giê-su bắt đầu công khai sứ vụ “rao giảng Tin mừng của Thiên Chúa”. Và việc “rao giảng Tin mừng của Thiên Chúa” phải được tiếp tục ngay cả sau khi Ngài không còn trên đất, vì thế Chúa Giêsu đã cần đến các môn đệ để tiếp tục sứ mệnh của ngài. 
Bài Tin Mừng hôm nay cho chúng ta thấy những yêu cầu tối thiểu để trở thành môn đệ của Chúa Kitô: Những người được gọi và họ đáp lại lời mời gọi của Chúa với tiếng "xin vâng" và họ theo Chúa. Những người theo Chúa Kitô trước tiên là những người đánh cá quê mùa, chất phát, hai anh em ông Simon và Andrê, Giacôbê và Gioan. Chúa Giêsu thấy họ đang ở đước thuyền vá lưới và mời gọi họ đến với ngài để “đánh cá người”. Và ngay lập tức, không chút do dự, từ biệt và họ theo Chúa không có một sự chuẩn bị nào, họ bỏ, bỏ lưới, bỏ cha mẹ và gia đình để theo Chúa Giêsu. 
Chúng ta không biết tại sao Chúa Giêsu lại đi chọn những người đánh cá quê mùa, ít học, đơn sơ làm môn đệ của ngài: có lẽ chúng ta có thể là điều gì đó về việc người lưới cá sẽ trở thành người “đánh lưới người!” Sau đó, Chúa Giêsu lại gọi người thu thuế, tội lỗi đang ngồi thu thế và đếm tiền "'Hãy theo tôi.' Chúa Giêsu gọi ông Philíphê, và ông ta lại kéo thêm bạn mình là ông Nathanael đi theo Chúa Giêsu. 
Cho đến hôm nay, Chúa Giêsu vẫn còn tiếp tục kêu gọi chúng ta những người nam, nữ từ mọi nơi và mọi lứa tuổi trong cuộc sống theo Ngài để tiêp tục việc “rao giảng Tin Mừng,” trong các chức vụ khác nhau trong Giáo Hội. Chúng ta hãy cầu nguyện xin Chúa giúp giúp chúng ta để chúng ta có thể dám hy sinh và quảng đại để theo sự kêu gọi của Thiên Chúa. Và Xin Chúa là Chúa của mùa gặt sẽ tiếp tục kêu gọi nhiều người đến phục vụ ngài. Sau cùng, chúng ta cũng cầu nguyện cho nhau, cho những người đã xin chúng ta cầu nguyện và nhất là cho những người đang cần tới lời cầu nguyện của chúng ta nhất. 

Reflection Monday 1st week of Ordinary 
The Gospel begins with the ministry of John the Baptist to prepare "the way of the Lord." And immediately after Jesus was baptized by John and after he stayed forty days in the desert and was tempted by Satan, Jesus begins his public ministry, "preaching the Good News of God." Considering that "preaching the Good News of God" must continue even after his lifetime on earth, Jesus needed followers to continue his mission. 
Today's Gospel reading presents the barest requirements to be a follower of Christ: he calls and the one called replies "yes" and follows. His first followers were simple fishermen, two sets of brothers, Simon and Andrew, James and John. Jesus saw them fixing their boats and nets and invites them to be with him to "fish for people." And immediately, without any hesitation, farewells and any other preparations, they leave their boats and nets, father and families and follow Jesus. 
We do not know why Jesus chose simple fishermen as his first disciples: could be something about fishermen becoming fishers for people! Later Jesus would see a tax collector sitting in his office and he will tell Levi, "'Follow me.' And Levi got up and followed him. As simple as that. 
In the Gospel of John, his first followers were originally disciples of John. "On the following day John was standing there again with two of his disciples. As Jesus walked by, John looked at him and said, 'There is the Lamb of God.' On hearing this, the two disciples followed Jesus" and spent the rest of the day with him. Andrew was one of the two who followed Jesus at John's invitation: Andrew then invites his brother Simon to join him. Subsequently Jesus calls Philip who then invites his friend Nathanael to join him with Jesus. 
Until today Jesus calls men and women from all stations and ages in life to follow him in "preaching the Good News," especially in the various ministries of the Church. 
We pray that we may be generous in following God's call and the Lord of the harvest will continue calling many to his service. Finally, we pray for one another, for those who have asked our prayers and for those who need our prayers the most. 

Opening Prayer: 
Lord, I come before you as I am, with the gifts you have given me, aware of my weaknesses and dependent on you. Help me see the world the way you see it and to love accordingly. 
Encountering Christ: 
1. God’s Will Be Done: John had been arrested, and Jesus came to Galilee with full authority from the Father to proclaim the Gospel and encourage repentance. John’s humble acknowledgment, “He must increase; I must decrease,” (John 3:30) was now fulfilled. How did John feel about this? “The one who has the bride is the bridegroom; the best man, who stands and listens to him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. So this joy of mine has been made complete” (John 3:29). Knowing his purpose and seeing that Jesus’s ministry was flourishing gave John joy. We also desire the fulfillment of God’s plan for our lives. We decrease and Our Lord increases, shining through our words and actions. 
2. Called: Two sets of brothers worked side-by-side, day after day, fishing in the Sea of Galilee, four individuals among many, many fishermen at the time. The ancient Jewish historian Josephus states that there were more than 230 fishing boats working the Sea during that period. Jesus walked by those two boats and called the sets of brothers to follow him, forever changing their lives and the lives of their families. Our Lord has an individual and unrepeatable call for each of us as well. He calls us to action in the midst of our everyday tasks, requiring no expertise in evangelization, just a heart ready and willing to love others for his sake. 
3. Following: Because they accepted Jesus’s invitation, we have our first pope, the Gospel and letters of John, and letters from James. What graces they brought to the early Church and to us many years later. By design, the living of our vocation in accordance with God’s will showers graces on us, as well as on those we love, and on the whole Church. We may never see (in this life) the fruits of our “yes” to becoming a follower of Christ, but every act of love has eternal consequence. “If the perspective is temporal, love will remain (cf. “never fails,” 1 Corinthians 13:8), even when faith has yielded to sight and hope to possession” (USCCB footnote on 1 Corinthians 13:13). 
Conversing with Christ: Lord, you are great indeed, and holy is your name. Thank you for this time with you. Help me to trust you, love you above all things, and follow you according to your holy will. Never let me be separated from you. 
Resolution: Lord, today by your grace I will entrust my work to you, and consciously offer my labor as a sacrifice of love for those dearest to me.

Sự hiện diện của Chúa Giêsu với dân chài lưới chất phát quê mùa, Sự mời gọi chân tình của Ngài đã làm lôi cuốn họ, đến nỗi họ đã bỏ lại tất cả mọi thứ, kể cả người cha me, bạn bè và đồng nghiệp của họ, thuyền, lưới cá và vốn liếng nghề nghiệp của họ; tất cả mọi thứ vật chất trong thực tế để theo nChúa Giêsu! Điều gì đã tác động mạnh trên đám dân chài đơn sơ này?! 
Từ đó về sau bốn người này, cùng với những người khác sau này, đã theo Chúa và cùng đồng hành với Chúa Giêsu, Họ chia sẻ những chuyện riêng của họ, những chuyện vui, chuyện buồn trong đời họ.. Như Chúa Giêsu, họ cũng sẽ phải trải qua những sự chối bỏ, và sự phản bội của những người khác và cuối cùng họ cũng mất luôn cả 'người bạn thân' và người 'thầy'. Họ sẽ lần lượt hy sinh mạng sống mình cho Chúa Giêsu. Những gương sáng của họ đã gây niểm cảm hứng cho tất cả những người tự gọi mình là Kitô hữu.; 
Tình yêu vô điều kiện của Chúa Cha và lòng thương xót vô biên của Ngài với tất cả nhân loại Trong Năm Thánh về ”Lòng Chúa Thương Xót”, thời gian đã cận kề, Nước trời đã gần đến với chúng ta'. Ngài chỉ cần có điều kìện cho chúng ta hãy "tin tưởng, và theo Ngài". Chúa Giêsu đã không bani chúng ta bất kỳ một điều răn nào mới, chỉ có môt đều đặc biệt, đó là tình yêu vô điều kiện của Thiên Chúa mà Chúa ban cho tất cả mọi người không có sự đòi hỏi nào khác.! Điều này sẽ làm cho chúng ta đứng lên và chiêm ngưỡng những việc kỳ diệu của Thiên Chúa. 

Meditation: "The kingdom of God is at hand" 
What is the Gospel of God which Jesus came to preach? The word "gospel" literally means "good news". When a king had good news to deliver to his subjects he sent messengers or heralds throughout the land to make a public announcement - such as the birth of a newborn king or the victory over an invading army or occupied force. God sent his prophets to announce the coming of God's anointed King and Messiah. After Jesus was baptized in the River Jordan and anointed by the Spirit he begins his ministry of preaching the Gospel - the good news that the kingdom of God was now at hand for all who were ready to receive it. 
God rules over all 
What is the kingdom of God? The word "kingdom" means something more than a territory or an area of land. It literally means "sovereignty" or "reign" and the power to "rule" and exercise authority. The prophets announced that God would establish a kingdom not just for one nation or people but for the whole world. The Scriptures tell us that God's throne is in heaven and his rule is over all (Psalm 103:19). His kingdom is bigger and more powerful than anything we can imagine because it is universal and everlasting (Daniel 4:3). His kingdom is full of glory, power, and splendor (Psalm 145:11-13). 
In the Book of Daniel we are told that this kingdom is given to the Son of Man (Daniel 7:14,18,22,27). The Son of Man is a Messianic title for God's anointed King. The New Testament word for "Messiah" is "Christ" which literally means the "Anointed One" or the "Anointed King". God sent us his Son not to establish an earthly kingdom but to bring us into his heavenly kingdom - a kingdom ruled by truth, justice, peace, and holiness. The kingdom of God is the central theme of Jesus' mission. It's the core of his gospel message. 
As soon as John the Baptist had finished his testimony, Jesus began his in Galilee, his home district. John's enemies had sought to silence him, but the gospel cannot be silenced. Jesus proclaimed that the time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand. Jesus takes up John's message of repentance and calls disciples to believe in the gospel - the good news he has come to deliver. What is the good news which Jesus delivers? It is the good news of peace (restoration of relationship with God - Ephesians 6:15), of hope (the hope of heaven and everlasting life - Colossians 1:23 ), of truth (God's word is true and reliable - Colossians 1:5), of promise (he rewards those who seek him - Ephesians 3:6)), of immortality (God gives everlasting life - 2 Timothy 1:10), and the good news of salvation (liberty from sin and freedom to live as sons and daughters of God - Ephesians 1:13). 
Two conditions for the kingdom - repent and believe 
How do we enter the kingdom of God? In announcing the good news, Jesus gave two explicit things each of us must do to in order to receive the kingdom of God: repent and believe. When we submit to Christ's rule in our lives and believe the gospel message the Lord Jesus gives us the grace and power to live a new way of life as citizens of his kingdom. He gives us grace to renounce the kingdom of darkness ruled by sin and Satan, the father of lies (John 8:44) and the ruler of this present world (John 12:31). That is why repentance is the first step. 
Repentance means to change - to change my way of thinking, my attitude, disposition, and life choices so that Christ can be the Lord and Master of my heart rather than sin, selfishness, and greed. If we are only sorry for the consequences of our sins, we will very likely keep repeating the sin that is mastering us. True repentance requires a contrite heart (Psalm 51:17) and sorrow for sin and a firm resolution to avoid it in the future. The Lord Jesus gives us grace to see sin for what it really is - a rejection of his love and wisdom for our lives and a refusal to do what is good and in accord with his will. His grace brings pardon and help for turning away from everything that would keep us from his love and truth. 
To believe is to take Jesus at his word and to recognize that God loved us so much that he sent his only begotten Son to free us from bondage to sin and harmful desires. God made the supreme sacrifice of his Son on the cross to bring us back to a relationship of peace and friendship with himself. He is our Father and he wants us to live as his sons and daughters. God loved us first and he invites us in love to surrender our lives to him. Do you believe that the gospel -the good news of Jesus - has power to free you from bondage to sin and fear? 
Like fishermen - we are called to gather in people for the kingdom of Christ 
When Jesus preached the gospel message he called others to follow as his disciples and he gave them a mission - "to catch people for the kingdom of God." What kind of disciples did he choose? Smelly fishermen! In the choice of the first apostles we see a characteristic feature of Jesus' work: he chose very ordinary people. They were non-professionals, had no wealth or position. They were chosen from the common people who did ordinary things, had no special education, and no social advantages. Jesus wanted ordinary people who could take an assignment and do it extraordinarily well. He chose these individuals, not for what they were, but for what they would be capable of becoming under his direction and power. 
When the Lord calls us to serve, we must not think we have nothing to offer. The Lord takes what ordinary people, like us, can offer and uses it for greatness in his kingdom. Do you believe that God wants to work in and through you for his glory? 
Jesus speaks the same message to us today: we will "catch people" for the kingdom of God if we allow the light of Jesus Christ to shine through us. God wants others to see the light of Christ in us in the way we live, speak, and witness the joy of the gospel. Paul the Apostles says, But thanks be to God, who in Christ Jesus always leads us in triumph, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing (2 Corinthians 2:15). Do you witness to those around you the joy of the Gospel and do you pray for your neighbors, co-workers, and relatives that they may come to know the Lord Jesus Christ and grow in the knowledge of his love? 
"Lord Jesus, you have called me personally by name, just as you called your first disciples, Simon, Andrew, James, and John. Help me to believe your word and follow you faithfully. Fill me with the joy of the gospel that your light may shine through me to many others.
