Suy Niệm Thứ Bẩy Tuần thứ Nhất Mùa Chay (Mt 5, 43-48)

Bài Tin Mừng hôm nay Chúa mời gọi chúng ta trở nên hoàn hảo như Cha của chúng ta trên trời là đấng hoàn hảo. Sự hoàn hảo ở đây không đề cập đến sự trọn vẹn là phải trở nên "vô tội" hay là phải hoàn hảo mà không phạm đến bất cứ một tội nào, nhưng mà chú trọng tới bối cảnh của Tin Mừng hôm nay. Sự hoàn hảo của Thiên Chúa trong thực tế là Thiên Chúa yêu thương chúng ta ngay cả khi chúng ta còn là tội nhân, còng là ngường đang mắc tội phản nghịch cùng Ngài.

            Bởi vì mỗi lần chúng ta phạm tội không tuân giữ các điều răn của Ngài hay đi ngược lại với ý muốn của Ngài, chúng ta là kẻ phản nghịch với Ngài. Tuy nhiên, Thiên Chúa luôn mãi mãi yêu thương chúng ta. Và Ngài đã luôn để ánh nắng mặt trời của Ngài chiếu trên những người xấu và người tốt đồng đều và như nhau; Có nghĩa là Thiên Chúa yêu thương tất cả mọi người mà không có sự phân biệt, không có sự ngoại lệ. Đây là loại tình yêu mà chúng ta không thể hiểu được, bởi vì tình yêu này không giống như một tình yêu của con người. Hôm nay, Chúa mời gọi chúng ta trở nên hoàn hảo như Chúa trong việc yêu thương kẻ thù của chúng ta. Con người chúng ta được tạo dựng theo hình ảnh của Thiên Chúa, đã được khắc in ngay trong thâm tâm của Ngài nên cần được yêu thươmh để hoàn tất.

            Trong thực tế, tất cả các giới răn và luật của Chúa đã được đúc kết vào trong hai điều răn mới đó: Mến Chúa và yêu người. Tình yêu dành cho kẻ thù của chúng ta đã được thực hiện và minh chứng qua việc Chúa Giêsu Kitô đã xuống trần và sống giữa chúng ta, Ngài đà chết vì tội lỗi của chúng ta, Ngài là Đấng đã sống lại và đã sai Thánh Thần của Ngài đến với chúng ta để giúp chúng ta có thể thực thi các điều răn của Thiên Chúa một cách đầy đủ. Bằng với tất cả những nỗ lực tuyệt đối của con người, chúng ta chắn chắn không thể nào giữ được bất cứ một giới răn nào. Điều chứng tỏ cho chúng ta biết rằng: nếu không có Chúa Thánh Thần, thì chúng ta không có thể hoàn sự bất cứ việc gì.

Để nhận được tình yêu này trong sự hoàn hảo, chúng ta cần phải cầu nguyện và xin ơn Chúa Thánh Thần giúp đỡ. Sau cùng, chúng ta cũng nên cầu nguyện cho nhau, cho những người đã xin chúng ta cầu nguyện cho họ và nhất là cho những người cần tới những lời cầu nguyện của chúng ta nhiều nhất.

Reflection

Christ invites us to be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect.  The perfection here is not referring to becoming "sinless" or to being perfect without any sin, but rather in the context of the Gospel today. The perfection of God lies in the fact that God loves us even when we are His enemies.  

  For every time we break His commandments or go against His will, we are His enemy.  And yet, God loves us all the time.  And He lets His sun rise on the bad as well as on the good.  It means that God loves ALL men, without exception and distinction. This kind of love is something we cannot comprehend because it is not a human love. The Lord invites us to be perfect in loving our enemies.   Man, who is created in the image of God, has engraved in his innermost being the need to love in order to be fulfilled. 

   All the laws and commandments in fact have been summarized into two commandments:  Love God and love your neighbor. This love for our enemies was made possible with the arrival of Jesus Christ, who resurrected and gave his Holy Spirit to us so that we may fulfill the commandments of God.  For by sheer human effort, we cannot even fulfill any one commandment. This is important for us to realize, that even with the best intentions, without the Holy Spirit, nothing is possible. To receive this perfection of love, let us pray and ask for the Holy Spirit!    Finally, we pray for one another, for those who have asked our prayers and for those who need our prayers the most. 

REFLECTION Saturday 1^st Lent

Over 11 years ago, actually on October 2, 2006, a shooting occurred at the West Nickel Mines School, an Amish one-room schoolhouse in the Old Order Amish community of Nickel Mines, a village in Bart Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Gunman Charles Carl Roberts IV took hostages and shot eight out of ten girls (aged 6–13), killing five, before committing suicide in the schoolhouse

     After that, there was a story in LIFE magazine about this attack.

Most Americans see the Amish as oddities because of the way they live out their faith.

This faith dictates that they dress and speak like their forefathers did in the 1800s.

They refrain from watching TV or using cars.

They keep themselves separate from those unlike them.

But when the reporter asked one Amish farmer what he would do to the arsonist if ever he was caught, the farmer replied:

  "I would invite him for dinner, and then ask him why he did this.”

            Can we imagine inviting one of our enemies to dinner?

Jesus did even more. He forgave his executioners as they sat at his feet, gambling for his few possessions.

He forgave those who watched him die with satisfaction.

 "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."

            This is the perfection God asks us to achieve: the simplicity of a friendly act toward a hostile antagonist; the greatness of heart required to forgive those intent on our destruction.

            God gives us every good gift in Jesus Christ so that we may not lack anything we need to carry out His will and to live as His sons and daughters.

He knows our frailty and sinfulness better than we do.

   And He assures us of His grace and help to follow in His ways.

            In the cross of Jesus, we see the way of perfect love. Do we want to grow in the knowledge, wisdom, and love of God?

Let’us ask the Holy Spirit to set our heart on fire with the love of God.
